since the COW was removed from Cambridge the service in Leamington is largely unserviceable. From their coverage map you will see it is mostly in the grey area.

The trouble is coming back from Cambridge when I arrive home in Wordsworth street in Leamington  the service has changed to emergency calls only and the phone needs restarting (phone is samsung s3 mini ).

No problem with Spark or Vodafone SIM's. It seems to me that 2degrees think service is officially available in all of Leamington and it isn't so Vodafone don't allow roaming. Is it fixable or should I bite the bullet so to speak as my friends suggest and move to Vodafone or Spark and loose all my roll over minutes and data..

I hope it is fixable.

You could send them a message via facebook or what other options they have on their webpage and see if they have plans to liven up new towers in the area.

Otherwise may have to move carriers.

Have you tried forcing your phone to roam onto Vodafone? Just because 2degrees have native coverage in a town doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to roam on Vodafone. (Can't in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch but usually can elsewhere.)

It is set on auto select . I have tried selecting Vodafone but it says not registered on network etc.
When it cant connect via 2degrees it says emergency calls only which I assume is from Vodafone.

Leamington is notoriously awful for 2Degrees and Vodafone coverage in my experience - usually my work phone on Spark is okay, but my 2Degrees might as well not have a SIM. Honestly, the only solution I can recommend is move to Spark - Vodafone seem to have really, really dodgy coverage around Cambridge and Te Awamutu and the surrounding (in my experience), while Spark is consistently serviceable.

I had the same issue with my mothers phone she was on 2D and lives up north. When roaming on the VFNZ network up there everything was fine, until she would drive into 2D coverage and the phone would go into la la land until restarted. I called logged a fault after 2 weeks of getting no where she moved to VFNZ issue sorted. She was only with them because of the carry over for prepay.

I have driven around the Cambridge rural area with A Vodafone mobile and my 2degrees mobiles and found roaming works fine in all areas except the Leamington Streets from Shakespeare street and towards Karapiro. In this area the 2Degrees mobile goes into "emergency calls only" mode with the signal strength similar to Vodafone. I regularly  move around the Rotorua and Hamilton areas with no problems. Specifically how do I get to contact 2Degrees support or Vodafone support to investigate my problem? A link or email addresses will do. Thanks.

You need to call  your carrier 2D. Good luck.

Until Vodafone and/or 2degrees build another tower here, Spark will have the best coverage.

freitasm: Please keep this as a 2degrees affair. You know what I am talking about.

I know the rules. I am retired and no longer involved in any type of configuration or issues. This issue has been around a  too long so any judicious prodding that gets you or anybody else interested hopefully will help get it fixed and a reply from 2degrees.

I seem to recall the trees surrounding Cambridge had something to do with the signal (or lack thereof). I could be wrong however.

2degreesCare:

I can probably help a bit, pm me if you want more info.
Basic rundown is anywhere in Leamington (basically the east side of the Waikato River) suffers terrible 2degrees reception, jumping betweening roaming, EDGE and 3g to the point of being unusuable without standing and holding the phone in perfect position to get a HSDPA connection, although on Shakespeare St its OK. I've experienced this with a S4 (2degrees standard one), a S5 (Gm900F) and my current Nexus 6P. It wasn't as severe when the COW was outside the CB exchange, but it still wasn't fantastic. The ideal solution would be to deploy a COW or permanent cell (even an infill cell would probably do, at a guess) in Leamington.

Also a bit of band 28 LTE wouldn't go amiss - the LTE in Cambridge barely reaches the telephone exchange.

Awesome

I dropped 2D in favour of VF recently. When travelling around NZ I was constantly in and out of coverage, often with "Emergency Calls Only" when my wife had good coverage on Vodafone. The roaming, particularly in areas where 2D have some coverage but it's patchy is very problematic. In and around cities 2D was fine, but moving around it was a nightmare.
