I wonder if 2 Degrees is going to follow Spark with the Speed Upgrade from 30/10 to 100/20 at no extra cost, they say it is because there is no difference in the wholesale cost. It sure would be nice.

Don't know but I think there is a small wholesale price difference between the two plans.  From memory 30/10 wholesales for $37.50 where as the 100/20 pan is $40 (and increases by $1 per year until 2020).  The wholesale cost of 100/20 might actually be $41 now.  In time I guess the ISPs won't be willing to absorb the price difference between the two plans which by 2020 will be a not insignificant $7.5.  Well before then we will have got completely use to premium UFB and will be reluctant to go back to 30/10.

I'm fairly sure 30/10 wholesale cost increases at the same rate till 2020 so the $2.50 difference will stay right through.. I do look forward to 100/20 becoming the default though - 30/10 isn't really as compelling.

Ah ok, I didn't realize that the increase also applied to the 30/10 plan.  I've just got 100/20 (with Spark at the 30/10 price) and am pleased with it.  However, it's probably overkill for me because I'm not doing multiple things online at the same time. Even if I was streaming 4K Netflix, 30/10 would be ample.

Yeah if I could get fibre I'd still take 100/20 or higher, but purely because I want the higher upload speed, rather than needing download speed that high.. I still miss my symmetrical 200/200 I had in Singapore when living there :(

I'm pretty sure 100/20 isn't subject to the price rise as it's not a CFH product. It's 30/10 and 50/20 CFH products that see increases every year until 2019. These increases that were set in place when the original UFB wholesale pricing was set to encourage growth of higher spec products.

Upgraded to 100/20 from 30/10 recently. Doesn't really make anything feel faster, except occasionally big uploads.

My VDSL is already 50 down so when I upgrade to fibre I'm definitely going for 100, maybe 200.

Hey all,

 

We are currently reviewing all of our plans and price points following the copper wholesale price increase, we have taken this opportunity to review the UFB pricing at the same time. 

 

Keep your eyes peeled, there should be something come out with more details on this in the next couple of weeks or so.

One great thing -- data cap ,speed and cost complaints have mostly disappeared. 

 

But, in saying that, 2degrees prices are looking a little peaky these days.

Nice to see 2 Degrees are reviewing their pricing - but this will come a few weeks too late for me damn it.

 

I've now arranged a shift from 2 Degrees to Big Pipe, precisely due to the cost I'd have faced upgrading from 30/10 to 100/20 - an additional $25 a month, which is farcical given the wholesale cost difference is only 10% of that.

 

I've spoken to 2 Degrees staff a few times over the past couple of weeks, and each time explained why I'm planning on leaving, but wasn't given any heads-up that something better may be around the corner that could have made me hold off moving, which is a bit annoying...

Remember wholesale cost is not the only input.

 

I still think we'll start to see price increases on 100 and 200 plans over the next year or two as uptake of these grows. As usage grows and ISP's need to move beyond 10Gbps backhaul links and increase BNG throughput the whole economics of providing service starts to change.

That is because front line CSR's aren't aware of what management are working on until they are given the information 1-2 days ahead of the products release, this is the same with all Telcos. Its much easier not to tell your staff until you are ready to launch t avoid incorrect information being given to a customer which they can then hold against the company.
