rbt1950: I went to a Golden pin, the gold message box came up, said that I was close enough, Let's Go. I pressed it, wait, wait, wait then got a message "Looks like these points aren't close enough" and the pub turned grey. I was on the footpath, map showing the point on the road about 2 metres away.
Anyone have this happen?

Yes - but not with a 1gb one luckily!  Just found a 1gb golden pin in Te Awamutu today

Niel:

If I'm on normal pre-pay and collect data, then buy carryover combo, will the data I've collected convert from 30 days expiry to carryover data?

I found that data collected before acquiring the carryover combo does not change to carryover data. However, any data found after going on to the carryover combo will be carryover data.

.

Had this happen to us in Taupo, fortunately there were 2 other golden pins nearby.

Have also noticed golden pins at the following locations:

Ohakune

Taupo x3

Tirau

Hamilton

Huntly

Bombay - Mill Road service station

Along with these other ones in Auckland, its not hard to get to the end of the hunt fairly quickly:

City x2 (Queen St and Elliot St)

Auckland Domain

Royal Oak

Mt Wellintgton (Spotlight store)

Otara

Takapuna

Mission Bay - have not seen this myself.

Tech support eventually replied that no, data does not carry over if collected before switching to $19 combo.  Took them about a week to tell me.

I've used very little of the data, but had lots of fun collecting it.  For me, that was the point.  And also to see how much data would I use if I had it, which turned out to be not much despite some browsing and some videos and GPS.

You can never have enough Volvos!

I have been out collecting pins in Marlborough with my friend. The app seems to work okay on my iPhone, but on her Samsung phone it freezes when she tries to collect a pin and she has to restart the app to finish the process.

It is also interesting that the same pins appear to give me a bit more data than she receives.

You can buy a 2degrees sim from countdown for $1 and do it all again.

Went data hunting on a road trip.

Got a couple of pins in Wellington, and one in Nelson.

Further south than that though (Westport, Greymouth, Hokitika, Fox Glacier), and I had troubles with the app - just loaded a white screen - no map. If it got past the loading page at all.

Managed to (somehow) qualify for a data point in Hokitika though I never saw it.

It occasionally popped up with messages like "Welcome to Nelson there are rumours of ..." but I could never get to read the full text of the message.
