My VPN settings keep disappearing and VPN option gets disabled. Is it something to with 2D updating settings - 

 

13.12.16 05:52:36 The service provider successfully transmitted settings to this device

 

I keep seeing the above message almost every day but VPN does not get disabled every time after this log entry. Just today when i was trying to connect, I noticed VPN disabled again. Can someone from 2D comment or anyone else on how can this be stopped?

I have a fritzbox 7390 & when I was with 2D i got those messages frequently in the logs (The service provider successfully transmitted settings to this device). Transmit what more snoopware?

 

Recently I changed to Unlimited Internet (they are great by the way) & my logs now are pretty quiet. I currently use the desktop windscribe VPN & the browser plugins on chrome & firefox. I'm just in the middle of trying to find out if Fritzbox supports Openvpn (what is it?) with windscribe as they told me it has to support that.

The message:

 

  The service provider successfully transmitted settings to this device

 

does not mean that there have been any changes to your settings.  All it means is that your FritzBox has connected to the 2D settings server and checked if there are any changes to be applied.  It does that every day (actually a bit less than every 24 hours, so it gets earlier every day).  It is fairly rare for there to be changes in the settings as a result of this check.  And the settings that are affected by this are a limited subset of the full set of settings - only the things needed to make the connection work and to make VOIP work (if you have that).  It is possible for 2D to change other settings, but they don't do that unless you have called them and they need to for fault finding reasons.  You can find out if any settings have been changed by doing a backup of your settings before and after when you think it might be happening and then comparing the two backups.  The backup files are text files that can be compared using a text diff program.

 

You should probably call 2D and ask them about your problem.

Thanks for the replies.  One more issue, since I have created the VPN again, I can no longer access the internet when connected via VPN and can't find any setting for that. It seems like a DNS issue as some Apps seem to be working.

Found out why. When connected through VPN device gets IP outside of DHCP range but why woul that be as there are enough, almost 180 free IP addresses in the range?

Looks like it might not be 2D as it disabled again after a restart. If I look at the backup files to compare won't it just show that it was there before the backup and then not there after it gets deleted?

This does not mean that settings have been transmitted, and as yet we have not deployed new settings through this method (however it is there if we need to update settings on our 2degrees Home Phone plus/Snap Plus products for security reasons). We certainly wouldn't remove any user-applied configuration such as VPNs, custom WiFi settings etc.
