Hi

I contacted Two degrees about a spam email I keep getting into my snap email inbox.

Its coming from the same NZ email address.

I asked two degrees to filter out the email or blacklist the IP but they are refusing to do so.

The email is automated which arrives every month,  I forward them on to the company's solicitors but they are just ignored.

I don't want to ditch my snap email because of one spam email.

I logged into the webmail platform but I can't see where I can block it from there.

Thanks

Ford

Report to the DIA if they are a nz company. Why don't you set up a rule in you email client to bin it. It think you can also use something like mail washer to send a request to blacklist the senders ip. One of the many reasons why providing an email service is more pain than it is worth, and why faceless companies with no real person support are the main providers.

It's best not to use ISP provided email, if you move ISPs you lose it. You're better off with gmail or your own domain.

I reported tenancy services (part of MBIE) to the DIA spam service the other day. It took three calls and 15 minutes to unsubscribe from a landlords email list.

Why would you contact your ISP? 2D would not blacklist the IP as it will block everyone from getting it

My understanding is that government departments are excempt from the anti spam laws.

Governments are sometimes exempt, but most would probably do their best to comply unless there's a good reason not to. In this case there's no reason not to comply, so they would probably try.

If a landlord is spamming you, what's that got to do with MBIE?

I used to be a landlord, many years ago. I'm not any more. They kept me on the landlord mailing list. I didn't want to be on that list.

Got it. You wanted to be removed from MBIE's list of landlords. As far as efficiency goes, MBIE isn't sitting towards the top of my list of the better government departments.

go through the headers and see where it was sent from and email a complaint along with full headers to abuse@ their isp. Post full heades here if you're unclear.

Hi

I fowarded the email to the DIA

I asked Two degrees initially if it could be just filtered away from my inbox because their webmail platform does seem to have that feature.

The email is an automated invoice.

I remember years ago in the days of dial up. I was speaking to the snap people who were able to blacklist or filter certain spam items.

I hardly get spam.

An automated invoice you say? Is it an actual invoice you should receive? Do you have a commercial relationship to this company?

You didn't tell the whole story, so having a relationship with a company changes it completely. DIA might think it is not spam, unless it's a pro-forma invoice scam - is this case?

Here is the story

Yes I did have.

It was for fuel card which I used once for around $55.00

A direct debit was set up and the money never came out because the direct debit had been cancelled. Initially the monthly card fees came out. The bank never said why it was cancelled.

The company had not contacted me but they started sending the invoices which in three months $52.00 had turned into more than $400. When I queried it with the company when I wondered why the fuel purchase never came out, they literally abused me of theft and demanded I pay them in full. I asked them to send me all the invoices and I paid in full the statement that pertained to the purchase. Which the balance was around $57.00

The company advised they had cancelled the account but they never did and continue to invoice me today. I have also contacted the manager but nothing happened. The account was in the name of my company, which has since been struck off. The company was left open for five months. Standard business practice in NZ is that legit creditors will normally contact the company at the head office once they see a company is about to be struck off. Or make a formal objection to the companies office. But the company never came forward and they continue to invoice my company which no longer exists. They claimed that they had made several attempts to take the money from my bank and to contact me, which I can prove they never did. They then said they had sent the debt to a debt collector, who I contacted. They confirmed that they never had any instruction from the fuel company. Today I keep getting the automated invoices and no one has contacted me since.

I did have a contract initally for a year.

Which has long since expired.

I expect I will keep receiving the invoices for life.

Have you called the company again and told them to stop emailing you?
