Linux:

@dfnt This is thread is about Wi-Fi calling offered by 2degrees not the other option you are talking about

John

It's included as part of wifi calling though (in other countries), but the carrier has to support it hence my question

If it's not spoken about on the 2degrees site then it's not supported and I doubt if it is coming any staff member would be allowed to talk about it

@dfnt would love it to be supported and understand your question.

When you are making calls on wifi, can you tell from the phone screen? I recently used it abroad (or so I thought) and was charged for it. 2Degrees are waiving the charges, but I'm sure I was on wifi but they don't reckon I was.

On an iPhone the carrier name changes to 2degrees WiFi Calling

On a Samsung you'll see a phone + wifi symbol somewhere, according to this.

Otherwise for other Android phones I've no idea sorry

In the recent calls section of the phone app, calls made or received with wifi calling will have the wifi logo immediately after the symbol showing if it was an incoming or outgoing call. This is for my Galaxy S7, when I had wifi calling enabled while roaming. YMMV :)

Thanks. I'm on iOS and although I see "wifi calling" in the top bar, don't see a way to check what a call (current or historical) is actually using.

That is the general idea. The user doesn't need to know, it "just works".

You can also see the WiFi calling status on Settings --> General --> About.

So if wifi calling is shown, then all calls will be over wifi (domestic or not)?

Good to see the Huawei Nova 3i supports Wi-Fi calling as shown on the 2degrees tech specs page for the handset but not listed on the Wi-Fi calling supported list

We're getting that page updated now, thanks @Linux ;-)

What's in the rom update from 2 Degrees for VoWifi?
Any chance of this info to get it working on custom roms on One Plus devices.

SaltyNZ: Yes.

Recently while in Vietnam I made sure I would only be using wifi calling by switching to airplane mode and then only turning wifi on to make calls.

WiFi calling has been wonderful for me, especially on a recent trip to Japan, and because our 2D coverage is marginal here. However I have found one nasty side effect.

For months now the GPS in my Galaxy S7 Edge and wife's S7 has been turning itself back on, every time I move in or out of a wifi zone my phone has access to. I prefer to keep my GPS off as it really impacts battery usage. Finally I realised that having wifi calling enabled, causes the GPS to keep turning back on. I wish there was a way to avoid this, yet keep wifi calling turned on. Any suggestions?

Short of dirty hackery on the device to run custom firmware - which won't have the Wifi calling settings anyway - you can't disable it while Wifi calling is on as the phone is using it to provide location information to the IMS core, sorry.
