2 months ago, When enable came door knocking, I accepted Fibre installed. It was a basic install and I am very pleased with the work done. Was told after the job was done to contact any RSP / ISP when I am ready to use it with a suggestion to do it asap. I assume its so enable can make money from the install? Rather than that they will turn my VDSL off.

Anyways I am currently on 2degrees naked VDSL 110/44 with no problems.

I have a spare Fritzbox 7490. The GPON Light is on huawei ONT is working with a ethernet cable ready to plug into the fritzbox.

My question is there any downtime if I make the call to switch to fibre? Will there be a overlap where VDSL and fibre can be working at the same time ?

The reason I delayed is because I cant afford any prolonged downtime. So I  stayed with VDSL.

There should be overlap. But fritz box will need configuring to suit fiber on Lan port one.

You would need to ask your RSP because it's all up to them.

You don't "switch" from VDSL to fibre, they're two totally different connections. If a RSP allows the same login in their BRAS  from multiple connection types or simply creates a duplicate login for you there would be no downtime at all except for the time it takes you to reconfigure your router.

Sweet Thanks. I have changed the spare fritzbox to the following settings and hooked the ONT to  lan 1 on fritzbox.

  • connection to an external modem or router
  • Establish own connection to the Internet

- Username:
- Password: mypassword
- Encapsulation: PPPoE
- VLAN ID: 10

Just need to call 2degrees when ready I guess.

Thats a fantastic VDSL speed!

I believe the entry level UFB product is up to 100/20 so if you need a faster upload you're going to need to pay a bit more
