Hi Sam,

 

I had one of the team perform some testing on the testbed to emulate your configuration using a Fritz 7490 on 900/400 plan between our US speed test server and Ubuntu host on our test bed via Chorus ONT.

 

Results look good and were repeatable on the test kit. My suggestion is to check all of your kit, look at what and how your testing, network drivers etc.

 

Speedtest as an application doesn't perform well with high latency, hence why we use iperf / iperf3 for testing purposes. We were testing to the same server that our speedtest site sits on.

 

If you are still seeing poor results, please call into customer care on 0800 022 022 Option 7 and log a fault.

Hey guys,

 

 

 

I have been working with 2D on my US upload speed issues, which persist after the recent back-end upgrades & changes on their end.

 

 

 

I would really appreciate it if you guys could post your speeds to the 2D LA server for comparative purposes.  Try both SpeedTest and nPerf if you can.

I apologise @NickMack, it was not my intention to undermine what we are trying to achieve, just to get the experience of others to gather more data.  If others are not having problems then that points back to my specific case vs a more general issue.

 

However, I do understand that if others are still having issues that this doesn't necessarily mean that 2D is at fault.

Don't look at Speedtest - look at "real world" speeds.

 

Speedtest is utter crap now.

 

From my phone (via WiFi mind you):

 

 

From a freshly spawned Docker container running on my server (which can do Gigabit fine):

 

 

I don't think this issue exists anymore - all signs point to it being totally fine now. It is a problem with these "web based tests" as iperf3 achieves almost full line speed from the US for me also.

Thanks @SamF for working with us to investigate your speed to the US. We sent up a Fritzbox and one of our probes to look further into this.

 

We are able to simulate and replicate our customer environments well on our test bed, there are a lot of potential points in a network where congestion can occur, the obvious isn't always the cause of performance issues. We selected Fritzboxes as our CPE of choice for a number of reasons, whenever there is a new firmware available, before we release it to our customers,  we extensively test both data and voice components and work with AVM if we see any issues. The Fritzbox is extremely capable of pushing our current offering of 900/400.  Customers who choose to use another piece of hardware do so knowing that we haven't tested it. We have seen that devices that do packet inspection, intrusion detection etc take a large hit on the CPU of these devices, with the flow on affect being this can impact performance - Please be aware that a expensive device doesn't guarantee performance.
