rugrat: Don’t worry about DLNA questions etc, I just ran a test and saw that worst case senerio can plug WD mycloud into Spark modem without internet and can still access hard drive fine, plus drive boots up without internet too.

Guessing there would be threads if chromecast didn’t work,

So just need to know if modem rental free after first year, 1 year contract.

And if purchase $15 phone service is that the one that comes with free toll calls to landlines NZ?

Cheers.

Hi @Rugrat, customers pay $15 for the delivery of the modem but it remains the property of 2degrees, so if you cancel your service you have to return it to us. If you don't there will be a charge if it's not returned within 30 days of closing the account unless customers have leased the modem for over 36 months.

Yes the $15 Home Phone package includes free toll calls to NZ as well as Aussie landlines plus free local calls. More info here

Cheers

Does this also apply when customers have joined earlier, i.e. before 2degrees starting leasing modems (as opposed to giving them)?

No, they will be under the terms of the contract, i.e. if they're on a term plan and outside the term they can keep it, but if they cancel early they would need to pay the ETCs applicable to the contract they signed up to.

Mind telling us why this change in behaviour? I'd like to think this is for cradle to grave life cycle management? For businesses I do understand that it generally is about money though.

Cheers

What happens if we already have the same model when signing up? Do we get a monthly discount, or no contract?

Hi, if you sign up to a fixed 12 month term and you're bringing your own modem (BYOM) your early termination charges are reduced. You can also get a discounted new modem if you want one within the first 3 months of activation.

Hope that helps.

Assuming under this lease model that you will replace faulty/failed units for the lifetime of the contract with no additional fees?

2degreesCare: Just to confirm, the Fritzbox 7490 is supplied to our Fibre customers on the Ultimate Unlimited Plan (900/400), while the Fritzbox 7560 is supplied in all other cases (e.g. Fibre - 100/20, ADSL and VDSL).

Curious if this has changed, or if I was sent the wrong model. I am on the 900/400 plan, but was sent a 7560 not a 7490. Should I ask for an exchange?

If I change from my 100/20 fibre connection to 900/400 will 2Degrees change my Fritzbox 7560 to a 7490?

I doubt it, they sent me a 7560 when I signed up on gigabit.

I was actually sent a Fritzbox 7530. I assumed it was a 7560 as not being a 7490.

i think you have a case to ask for a swap to a 7490.

also, what happens when you move to a different provider and have to return it? do they expect a 7490 from you, as you were on the ultimate plan?

We shall see how it all plays out.

How does the 7530 compared to the 7560 & 7490?

Really digging into the weeds, but looks like this answers why there was change, came out yesterday, in short makes their books look much nicer :)

Capital expenditures increased $3.2 million, or 25%, compared to the same period in 2018. These increases were primarily due to the timing of those expenditures and network capacity developments. In addition, beginning in July 2018 as a result of revisions to the terms and conditions of the fixed broadband agreements with customers, the Company began to capitalize modem equipment purchases.
