Hi folks, finally had our fibre installed yesterday but am having problems connecting.

I am running a Netgear Nighthawk X4S trying to connect to 2Degrees fibre.

I can set the modem to PPPoE but when I try to set the VLAN to 10 - as per their instructions it get:

400 Bad Request / This server does not support the operation requested by your client

I have hunted online and this does seem to be a problem with some Netgear modems.

Has anyone else struck this, if so any solutions or should I just bite the bullet and get a new fibre ready router, was planning on getting one anyway so suggestions for that would be appreciated as well.

Cheers.

Are you plugging the router into the correct port on the ONT?

What color are the lights on the ONT?

Yes as soon as I try to apply the setting to the VLAN I get the 400 error.

The modem is plugged into port 1 on the ONT and I have green lights.

Quick read of the Netgear forums, and it is a common issue which they say was fixed with a firmware upgrade.

Make sure its on latest firmware.

Saw that myself. First thing I did, it is up to date.

Might be easier just to get a modem from 2 Degrees.

factory reset it and give it another go. Those web interfaces are terrible at not undoing settings when changing things around.

Yep, have done 2 full resets......no difference.
Just ordered one of 2D’s modems just to get started.

The Fritz!Box (the router that 2degrees provide) is incredibly good and to be perfectly honest will perform better than your Nighthawk on higher speed plans. Just stick with it. If you need more WiFi coverage you can purchase another Fritz!Box and put them into mesh mode.
