Hi,

Just wondering whether 2degrees are still shipping Fritzboxes on UFB plans.

If so what model?

Also, is it locked down in any way?

Thanks,

Felix

They don't make it easy to find out.

During the sign-up process, it tells you in the "Things you should know" section, they state: "Using a high-spec modem, such as a 2degrees Modem (model 7490)"

That would be a FritzBox 7490. Previously, these modems were not locked down at all. They do however come with TR-69 enabled for 2Deg Support to remotely connect / manage the device.

Fritz!Box 7490 (Gigabit Fibre / Fibre plans) or the Fritz!Box 7560 for ADSL / VDSL.

They're "leased" but not locked to the account. You have to return them once you're done with 2degrees.

You can buy them from 2 degrees. I needed a second one to set up a mesh network. Gave a preference of the 7490 and a 7560 turned up. Luck of the draw I guess.

They are cheaper through 2degrees than buying retail. However not as cheap as a free one on a return when leaving basis.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know whether it still possible to install the standard firmware to get rid of tr-069? I'm not hugely keen on the idea of ISPs logging into my router even if it is just for service reasons.

Can you get a connection with them and supply your own router?

I quite like the 7490, but I prefer to own one rather than rent one.

There seem to be only two options on sign up

1) 12 month contract and rent router
2) open term and buy router

It is quite frustrating that there is no option to buy on a contract.

"rent" one and just buy another... Then you can use it for Mesh.

freitasm:Changed the subject as it's not a modem, but a router.

Now that's interesting. When I visit my addons/hardware page in my account I see:

So... I thought I'd take 2Degrees up on their generous offer and was surprised when the modem turned up a couple of weeks ago.

I've since had a rather pointed email / phone discussion with 2Degrees who added a $159 charge to my account for the $0.00 modem I ordered and I'm now returning my "free" modem for a full credit :D  I'll pick up a cheap one elsewhere and use it for mesh.

Really interesting that it shows as $0.00 in my account though and full price in other people's accounts.

They sent me the 7560 and I'm on a Fibre plan, and there's been no new firmware since 7.01, so have I got an inferior one?

@rugrat Not at all and 7.11 is coming soon to the 7560

Did you check the specs between the 7490 and 7560?
