Hi,

I live in a poor mobile service area, so I recently switched to 2degrees to use Wifi calling.

The calls are fantastic, but when I try to send a txt message it often fails, in one of 2 ways:

  • Sometimes I get "Turn off aeroplane mode or use wi-fi to send and receive messages" (when I'm in aeroplane mode but with wifi turned on, and I can happily make wifi calls in this state)
  • Sometimes I'll be able to compose and sent the txt, but it will report that it was "Not Delivered" (when at least sometimes I know by asking the recipient that it actually was delivered)

I logged a call with 2degrees but first line support was a bit hopeless and eventually threw it up the chain saying: "...f you didn't get a reply from us in 1 or 2 weeks feel free to enquire about this issue quoting this service request reference: 1-37513243986", and it's now nearly 4 weeks later and I haven't heard.

Can anyone either help me troubleshoot, or help get this escalated inside 2degrees?

Meanwhile I have done some searching on my own and tried a few things in my home wifi setup, and ended up completely re-doing it with good quality Ubiquiti gear (can provide more network details if useful, but basically I have a security gateway with 2 APs).

Thanks, Darren.

Using an iPhone? If so, this is a known problem with the current iOS build (12.4.1 IIRC).

I had a massive problem with this on iOS 12.4.1, thought it was my WiFi setup but my partner on her Samsung Galaxy S10 never had any issues so scrapped that idea. I ended up jumping onto to the iOS 13 beta which solved it for me.

Since iOS 13 is only a few days away just wait patiently and it'll sort itself out (this is assuming you're using an iPhone).

Yup same issue here with our iPhones.
Also waiting for iOS 13 to drop and hoping that will fix any and all wifi calling issues we're having here!

The other day I wasn't receiving or sending SMS but the phone didn't tell me there was any issues sending, it looked like they'd gone.
Calling was working fine strangely.

Later that same day I suddenly received a whole lot of SMS at the same time and the ones I though I had sent actually sent.

Is SMS supported over WiFi calling? If not, it's probably just failing for the same reason a non-wifi call would fail - no signal.

Oh right - great to know, I'll just sit tight.

Wish I had posted here before upgrading the home network, but hey it's a nice network that I otherwise wouldn't have bothered upgrading to!

Yeah I think I've had something similar, and now I don't know whether people aren't replying to me, or just never got my txt!

Strange,may be a compatibility issue.
I’ve been using Wi-Fi calling here in the US, obviously different network ,but no problems with calls or messages.

So that's why it's suddenly happened. I finally know why now and I didn't accidentally bork my wifi somehow. Thank you. Will wait for iOS13 before turning it back on.

I have similar 'txt-on-wifi-calling' problems, but with my Android (Samsung A8) on 2degrees. Android version 9.

Wifi calling often won't allow txt - just times out with a 'failed to send' message. Usually while this is happening, I can still make / receive wifi calls (and the wifi and wifi calling icons are both displayed).

Sometimes turning wifi calling off and on fixes. Sometimes doing this to wifi as well...and sometimes turning phone off and on fixes. But none of the above always work - just have to wait (sometimes for 1+ hours) to come right.

Don't think it is our end of the network - problem happens while all other internet things are going fine, using same connections / hardware that often does work perfectly with wifi calling/txting.

Be interested to know any solutions!

@bluewave23 Is this on handset obtained from 2degrees running 2d approved handset firmware?

Not obtained from 2degrees, but from established retail channel (Noel Leeming). Not rooted or mucked around with etc, running supplied firmware.

FYI the upgrade to iOS 13.1 hasn't helped.

Wifi calling still drops off a lot of the time and SMS don't come through if it has dropped.

Just today I had my iPhone sitting on my desk and I could see the 2degrees wifi calling scrolling in the top left corner on the lock screen, which usually indicates that it is working, and my wife called the VoIP deskphone as she couldn't get through on my mobile.
While I was on the deskphone to her an SMS came through to say that I'd missed a call from her. 😡
