Hey there,

I have been thinking, what will the mobile competition from NZ comms actually bring?

Now assuming that it will be something similar to whats happening in Australia, I really dont think we can expect any drastic improvement in Prices. Vodafone and Telecom both have preety much the same rates. Now Im not saying Australia prices is what will happen, but it makes you think. With such a small population what is NZ comms really going to bring? a 5% cut 10%?

It seems that TelstraClears offering is pretty much better than what most Australian Companies offer. 30c/Min is pretty good!

Their Prices look good, but when they are talking about 30sec rates... Thats expensive!
I know I only have two examples up, but after checking out 3 Mobile, Telstra, Virgin and Vodafone, Im not impressed at their prices...

As far as I can see the only thing NZC can offer is a better price. Why would anyone move to a network that doesnt have the coverage of the existing networks (yes you can roam on Vodafone but I bet that ends up causing issues). Also if you travel overseas you would want to make sure they have interconnect agreements with overseas wireless companies before you leave home. I understand even Telecom are finding it a bit tricky to get interconnect deals with foreign wireless companies.

Personally I am fairly gruntled with my current service and would need something spectacular pricewise to get me to change.

I would like to know what  mobile provider in New Zealand provides a unlimited plan.
As can be seen from this ad from Virgin mobile in Aussie you can get unlimited mobile useage for $99 per month.
Who said that Australia was not a lot cheaper.

http://www.virginmobile.com.au/rates/postpaid_topless_plan.html

With our new Virgin Mobile Topless plans, we’ve stripped off and given you total freedom to express yourself.

Plus we've included a whopping 1GB of data for Mobile Browsing.

Got goose bumps yet?

  • UNLIMITED Standard CALLS to GSM Mobiles in Oz
  • UNLIMITED Standard TEXT to GSM Mobiles in Oz
  • UNLIMITED Standard LOCAL & NATIONAL CALLS in Oz
  • FREE VOICEMAIL in Oz
  • 1 GB MOBILE DATA#
Take off your cap and get topless. You know you want to.

Same here, and if NZC is going to be officially launching within the next three months (as suggested in other threads) their lack of advertising in relation to anything at all certainly isn't going to help their cause.

Its looking like NZcomms will have better coverage then the existing vodafone network. They are putting a hell of a lot of sites in around the place, and the number of places that I can see their not yet complete network but not vodafone is very encouraging.

I dont think we will see rates like they have in the UK etc because they spend pounds like we spend dollars, so would be too expensive for most people despite the free handsets, but the aussie rates look to be quite good.

The telstraclear plan is prettymuch useless for people that dont text since you are paying for $10 text use it or not, and vodafones add-on's stratigy is just too limiting and confusing and requires planning ahead, I would like to see something like telecoms flexi but with better rates.
