I am at the end of my tether. I have a Blackberry 7100v which was previously on the Vodafone network. I am now on the 2 Degrees network, and I can make calls, receive calls and receive texts. However, I cannot send text messages. When I try to compose one, it comes up with this error message:

Uncaught exception: java.lang.illegalArgumentException

What the blinkin' heck does that mean?? I have been on the phone all week for literally hours at a time with "tech support" from 2 Degrees and Vodafone trying to work it out and no joy. I have tried 3 different SIM cards. I have updated the java application on the BB. I have checked that the phone is unlocked from Vodafone. Nobody seems to know what to do, but someone will call me back "during office hours". When I put the SIM card into other phones, the SIM works fine. When I put other SIM cards from Vodafone into the BB they send the messages as texts, then again later as missed voice calls.

HELP!!! I swear, the next step is to put the BB in the driveway and back over it.

I used to get this on my Blackberry 7230 (2degrees sim card only / didn't do it with my voda sim). I changed the options under network to send over to GPRS instead of GSM, and back again and it seemed to fix it. Not sure if the 7100 has this option. Let me know.

Thanks mp1 - I have changed the setting to GSM under SMS in the Options folder - still no joy. At the top right hand side of the BB on the main screen, it still says it's operating on gprs. It also says "Data connection refused". 2 Degrees have disabled data on my account and that made no difference either. It's very bizarre. I have done several battery pulls, tried restoring to factory settings. Nothing.

Ok, I switched the BB to gprs and suddenly the darn thing has started sending texts. I have checked - it's not charging me for data, only texts. I can't get on the web, but I can send and receive both calls and texts (which is exactly what I wanted!!) I won't change it back to gsm now, just in case it falls to bits again.

Thank you so much!!!

I've changed it back to GSM and it seems to work, but i've never been charged for data on my 7230 with 2d (its not possible as far as i understand using prepay on any network to use data on a blackberry - well the older models). Weird aye? 2degrees didnt know what i was talking about when I was having the same java exception.
