freitasm: No, no keypad available...
Are you sure - seems like a bit of an oversight because *100# is the main way to get info about an account (no TXT service, and going online to check wastes data in the process - unless 2degrees makes it free to do so)

This afternoon I picked up a 2d sim. I thought it is about time I gave it a test. I?d also evaluated the rates and the data plan and there appears there is a few dollars that can be saved if I switch over!
On my return home I had it all working 10 minutes later. I then went onto the 2d web site and registered and then picked myself out a friendlier phone number. My home phone number had already gone which as a bit disappointing, but I found a number I?m happy to live with.
Next I purchased the data plan. It started working almost immediately and as others have reported today I had 3G coverage in Whangaparaoa. However this evening it went back to 2G.
The plan is now to test it out over the next 30 days and get a feel for the quality of service.
I like their web site ? very easy to use and you can see your account status / usage on the very first page after you log in.
The account status page also tells me I?m in the draw for a free $20 top up every month for a year, which would be a nice bonus if I win ? so if you could all hold off getting your 2d sims until next month would be greatly appreciated, as that may increase my chances of winning .

Yes, you will have 3G wherever you are, either on one network or another.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Well I woke up this morning with 3G on my phone, and as I've discovered 2Degrees customers have to use Vodafone's towers here in Rolleston. So they must have extended their testing across networks.

10GB could be right (although seems a little too cheap, even for 2Degrees),  but 512MB for $49 is way higher than telecom or vodafone, who both do the same amount for $30

also, if those were the only two plans they offer they would be missing the boat on anybody who wants to use, say, 1-2GB.

freitasm: Yep, that's the one I have here.

Do you still have a cradlepoint router and does the 2degrees modem work "out of the box" with it.  If 2degrees offer say 10G for a reasonable price with a 1 year expiry I may look at ditching my ADSL.  We use <1G per month.

dckiwi: One big question that there doesn't seem to be a straight answer to - will the roaming agreement on voda use the voda 3g network?

Yes, you will have 3G wherever you are, either on one network or another.

But will it be  on 2100 when roaming to voda  or 900??  I see from post in this thread that some people only have 2100  OR 850 and 2100.  If  on roaming on Voda it goes to 900 some people will be screwed for 3G

freitasm: OK, quick report of the meeting...

I was given a Huawei USB modem with a SIM card to test, but it will stop working when the network is locked again next week.

And that's all I have to say - nothing else was disclosed.

Do you know what frequency bands these data sticks can use??  850/ 900 / 2100??

Regards,

I think 12 bux for 512mb is a bit too low, even Voda's new iPad plan is nowhere near that.

(If history is anything to go by) 2d data plans are not as cheap as vodas ($10 for 100mb vs $12 100mb).

I would be happy with 200mb-250mb for $15-$20.

Your forgetting - you cant really put much data through EDGE - if history shows from their prepay calling they will half the current prices. And that's kinda what a 2d rep told me too but I may be wrong...
