Anyone know why their modem doesn't support EDGE? Given that's their backup for their 3G network, I would have thought that they would sell a device that supports it as well as 3G.

Edit: sorry for the long URL, I'm not sure how to make it a link :(

It definately supports GPRS and it connects via USB but neither of those connectivity methods are indicated there either.

I don't know that it does do EDGE but the above tells me not to believe that everything is as it reads :-)

A quick google seach turns up the following specs, unfortunately Huawei don't have them listed on their own website.

Huawei E1552 Modem Specifications

  • HSDPA/UMTS 900/2100MHz

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHz)

  • HSDPA connectivity at up to3.6Mbps.

  • Micro SD Memory Slot, act as Memory stick (upto 4GB)

  • Strap to hold modem and cap

  • Smaller and More compact. Stable, Reliable, Solid Body.

  • Compatible with Win 2000, XP & Vista and MacOS.

  • Zero CD Technology: No CD Requires, Auto plug and play. Simple and easy.

  • Compact USB stick form-factor: 87.5 x 26 x 11.5 mm

However Huawei do list a E155 which from my recall of their product codes generally means that the E1552 is basically variant 2 of the E155 which has the following specs

HSDPA/UMTS 2100/900MHz
EDGE/GPRS/GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
HSDPA 3.6M
Rx Diversity (Optional)
Compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Mac,and Linux OS
Micro SD Card Slot
Data, SMS and Voice
Flow display and statistics
Phonebook
USSD

Remember you'll only get EDGE on 2d's towers.

Yep, I just thought it was strange how their website listed so few features for the device, apart from "3G".
