I just popped my shiney new pay monthly sim into my phone and called 200 and set it up with a pin etc. All went fine. I then went onto 2degrees.co.nz/paymonthly to set it up and got the usual message saying that a code would be sent to my phone.... But nothing. So I used my other phone to txt it and nothing came through.

I rung 2degrees customer support (of whom were really friendly and helpful) but were unable to solve the issue. They done all the usual checks and came to the conclusion that they would have to get a tech to call me tomorrow.

I borrowed someones pre-paid 2D sim and messages came through instantly and calls worked fine. (Calls on my pay monthly work fine).

What could be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would love to get my pay monthly up and running ASAP.

Hi Starplay, I've PMed but not heard back. I need to know if this SIM is currently in a powered-on handset. The error I'm receiving is Absent-Detached which I should only get when the handset is off.

Unfortunately you're roaming on in Vodafone which is going to severely limit my ability to observe whatever weird thing is happening, because it will be happening in their radio network, not mine.

Hi SaltyNZ,

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you... I only just got home.

Ive PMed you the details... Ive put the sim into my phone so if you do any testing it should be fine (the phone is on).

One thing I did notice when putting the sim in was that the little black lines on the gold part of the sim are different to the pre-paid one I borrowed. Could this be a problem? Why would it be different? If it was the problem why do other features work?... Anyway Ill leave it up to you.

Ta, I will poke it this morning. I may PM you to get to do some things.

Anyway, if the SIM can register on the network and particularly if it can make & receive calls, then I doubt there's anything wrong with it.

Well, it would appear that Starplay's handset (and therefore presumably some others) doesn't like the sender address ("2D") that the Pay Monthly welcome message was coming from.

That caused the message to become stuck, and all subsequent messages to queue up behind it in the tube. I've updated my system to override the address as it comes from the system that sends those messages to "2degrees" which Starplay's handset accepts OK.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Cheers
S

Yip - And SaltyNZ had it sorted within hours... After sending him a PM in the late morning he had it all sorted just before lunch! All messages come through fine now...

THANKS!
