Hi there, I have been using my iPhone 4 (2degrees) for the past few days whilst staying at a family members and there is no 3G and the GPRS speeds are shocking. I am aware that I am roaming on vodafone so I checked the coverage map and there seems to be 3G coverage (St Andrews area) but still, my phone isn't getting it. Do you think this may have something to do with the fact that 2degrees may be testing their own cell towers in Hamilton and those are somehow interfering with 2degrees phones using Vodafone's network. I am running iOS 4.3.1 but have had this problem in St Andrews since I got my iPhone. Any responses would be much appreciated? :-)

Great! I can't wait to stop roaming on Vodafone and won't envy my family in Auckland. Bring on 1GB data packs :D

Hmm, I think the 2degree's towers in hamilton are live. I'm getting "2degrees" on my nokia 2730, instead of "vodafone NZ" that I usually get. (That is, the network display on the home screen that shows which network you're connected to. I do have a 2degree's SIM in there)

most phones as I understand it should still show "2degrees" even if roaming on vodafone (my iphone still says voda NZ).
In regards to St Andrews the 3G coverage there is very weak as when I visit a mate there my phone is usually sitting on 2G mode

if the 2degrees network was live or even being tested in Hamilton right now it would not stop you roaming onto Vodafone.
You should log a coverage issue with 2degrees and they will pass it on to Vodafone.

Hi,

You'll be roaming on Vodafones network there. Check you have 'Dual mode' on so it will pick up 2G as well as 3G, 'Data Roaming' is 'on' and your APN is set to 'Internet'.

Also make sure Network Selection is set to 'Automatic'. If the signal is still weak try the SIM in another phone to check if it's the phone at fault.

Hope this helps.

Also buy one of these to make using data while roaming that bit sweeter than buying casual rates - http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/data-packs.

I am having issues with 3g coverage in Hamilton North as well. No issues anywhere else but there.

Seems strange, and yes before you ask I have checked and double checked my settings. Even used another phone and still same issue.
