2DegreesCare: A software problem caused intermittent connection problems for some customers on the 2degrees national network for a few hours earlier today.


is it true SaltyNZ look after the said software?

Yes, it is true. All fixed now though.

...and yes it does seem to be all fixed now, I enjoyed my morning news on my Android as I do most mornings.

There are plenty of techs from competitors who reply to questions and issues here on GZ in their own free time.  A post like yours is a slap in the face to their hard work, and a great way to destroy any goodwill we have here.

I didn't see that as trollish at all, and I can't see how you could jump to the conclusion that he was dissing the good work of other techs on these forums.
Just a pat on the back for the 2degrees tech, good on ya.

Ya, that was how it was intended.  It was also an observation of the kinda company that 2Deg obviously are that their tech guys feel they can speak out.  I know of so many co's whos techs just don't say anything out of fear.

The comment had just about nothing to do with techs (who I know always like to share) but about the culture of the company.

I'm kinda sad it got taken that way.  I think I'll just shut up now. :(

I understood exactly like Nate: that Don was referring to other telcos, specially the one he likes to diss around here.

Don made it clear about it when he said "that's the sort of co I like to deal with, when tech people step up and just take ownership rather than hiding behind a vail of lawyers, vendors and bs." which to me sounds like a direct reference to Telecom and Vodafone.

This is certainly not a comment in the lines of "companies who are not/do not permit their techs to pursue an open relationship with those on GZ" as you think.

Nate's comment is still true. Other companies are present here, with the same level of participation.

Oh look, if Telecom and or Vodafone fit that profile in New Zealand then fine, what ever...  but it wasn't a flaming shot at them either!

I've been dealing with telcos, for decades, who say stuff like "it was our provider" or "it was our vendor" or some other bs comment...

My comment was simply intended to be a nice comment at SaltNZ who appeared (to me at least) to just step up and say "yip, that software was my baby, it went bung and it's fixed it now".

Perhaps I didn't write my thoughts down very well?!  Perhaps some of you guys are just a bit over sensitive  to people who normally pop up just to whinge about providers?!

To me that's a really refreshing change from the sort of bs I've seen from providers, venders, "who ever" for decades... 

It's the sort of response that I personally love to see from people. 

I tried to say thanks and voice my support for 2Deg! 

Next time I won't bother.  Next time I'll just join the norm with a comment like "Stupid 2Deg, give them a go and they just stuff up their network just like XT did, seems that no one can get it right." or some other equally inane dick head comment.  Then I'll be sure to get a volley of support from other posters who found 4 hours of interruptions to the mobile use a bother.

To tell the truth, me neither. Wife's number was ported on Friday, we exchanged SMS (both here in Wellington) during this whole drama and the service outage didn't affect the service for us...
