ajw:

How about some pass through from the regulation of mobile termination rates.

You might have missed it, but postpay plan SMS went up from 1000 a month to 2500 the next day. $10 Text and $19 Combo went up too.

What about prepay rates. These rates have been at the same level since August 2009. Would I be correct by saying that most of your customers are on prepay.

As various execs have already been quoted in the media, cuts to voice MTRs were priced in from launch.

What about when the MTRs are reduced to 5.5 cents in  October and to 3.5 cents next April. I note the ACCC in Aussie are now talking Bill and Keep in their latest discussion document for voice termination. You can get unlimited voice and txt usage for $AUD40 per month.

Unsurprisingly, Vodafone and Telecom say there is no reason for mobile call prices to fall as a result of the ruling - although charges for landline-to-mobile calls are likely to drop soon.

What is both surprising and disappointing is that the big players' public position is now shared by 2degrees, whose arrival in the market gave the duopoly the shake-up that regulators had failed to achieve.

You're never going to get the same prices as in Aussie. It's simply a numbers thing. More people use the Aussie networks, the lower the prices can be dropped whilst still making a profit. People keep using Australia as an example and it's a pointless exercise.

Well that's obviously not something I can discuss publicly whether I know or not.

'...there are now more than 15 million registered customers.'

Also closely comparable to New Zealand...

A quote from the same article.

"It's a distinct change of heart from the man who said in December that mobile operators could afford to lower prices if the termination fees fell".

So I got one of these calls today. They confirmed that I mainly use my phone for data and text. I was then offered the chance to double my bill for more minutes that I clearly do not use. I barely even get through the data on the $19 combo.
