It's been terrible for me, I can't even watch youtube videos.
My month just restarted today and I have reset my router etc to try anything I could but this is my speed within NZ

If it were during the weekend 3 - 4 December, then yes, it could be related to TelstraClear "unmetered" promotion, as discussed on a topic just below yours (folks should always check at least the first page of the forum for existing related topics).

The TelstraClear "unmetered" promotion ended Sunday midnight (Monday 12am), so if this is after that time, it could possibly be another problem - a line fault, etc.

Just got connected to Snap today.

Getting awesome speeds. I did hear that people had got slowdowns over the weekend due to TCL unlimited data weekend.

Why were other ISPs affected? Don't they purchase bandwidth with a CIR attached?

That may be the case, but I think 'Reach' which supply snap, are owned by Telstra? Maybe the Reach techs were trying to give Telstra more power... by cheakily reducing Snap and others bandwidth?

Also, back on track, my speeds are fine here in Wgtn.

Even if the CIR though NZ and to LA is/was protected, the problem is that we simply saturated out the load balancer in LA, at which point all hope was lost.

The problem impacted more than little old Snap, it also hit BigPond customers and would have also impacted any other wholesale customer that Telstra International/Reach had on that gear (which I'm guessing would be any inbound traffic as well for stuff like web sites hosted in the Telstra DC and anyone with IP in the ranges advertised in LA).

lol...  and so the conspiracy starts...

If we're going to get into random theory then I suspect that there's a techo v's bean counter war going on within Reach.

PPCW and Telstra split up Reach and took a few things in different directions, what exactly happened I don't know, but I get the impression that there's some unhappy techs left mopping up.

Or perhaps because, the easiest explanation, no conspiracy theory needed, 200,000 people accessed their network during the unmetered weekend (according to TelstraClear), causing a deluge of packets?

But essentially I am elaborating on the face that the "free" weekends are fail. Everyone jumping on the network to back up the internet all at once.  :D

That might be so but it should be concerning to Reach clients that another retailer can affect their own connection for a promotion, A DDOS I can understand but One retailer doing this should not in under any condition affect another retailers connection just because they share the same primary transit provider

I'm sure there are some balls being busted behind the scene's between reps from the ISP's using Telstraclear transit.
