There appears to be an issue for Snap users (Those who use the SNAP SMTP server) sending email to Xtra or Hotmail addresses.
I have spoken to the (SNAP) helpdesk (on saturday) and they confirmed the issue is known, yet nothing on your Network Status page.
Of the four emails sent on saturday to an xtra address, 2 had arrived by sunday afternoon. Of the 3 test emails sent so far to a hotmail address none have arrived yet.
We have also had this issue at work (Also use SNAP) for some weeks sending to trademe users who have hotmail addresses and them not receiving our emails so had to setup a gmail address to solve.

If this issue is known, why not show it on your Network Status page to save us wasting so much time trying to work out where the issue is when it is not us - the users?
Not all of us use twitter or facebook!

I have posted this primarily to at least let others be aware of the issue.

This - I'm sure business don't like wasting call centre resources - If its an issue present for more than 24 hours why not use the network status page.

The problem is the users. An ISP's sending reputation is only as good as it's weakest participants.

In any case, Snap weren't the only ones affected by this event and from what I've seen, they are probably one of the more superior providers in terms of both service and execution.

Over zealous spam filters blacklisting ISP mail servers due to a user being infected is a common problem, it's just the nature of email I'm afraid.

Basically smtp.snap.net.nz is/was listed on backscatter and uceprotect blacklists.

http://www.backscatterer.org/?ip=202.37.100.140
http://www.uceprotect.net/de/rblcheck.php?ipr=202.37.100.140

Snap's admin's would be on top of getting de-listed from these two blacklists, in fact it's already de-listed from uceprotect.

Putting a network status on the website every time a smtp server is blacklisted probably isn't practical.

I have found it is a common problem with xtra email addresses since they started using yahoo. I just tell people these days to use another provider, such as gmail. Gmail too can incorrectly classify legit emails as spam, but it is nowhere near as bad.

Agree depending on how much spam filtering you do or don't for outbound email (ISP SIDE) will determine how fast their MTA will get blocked by spam databases like this.

Some list's like SORBS refuse to remove a MTA unless you pay money....

Well it seems to be working now to both hotmail and xtra.
No reply here or direct to me from Snap...even though on saturday they said they would be in contact.
Also  shame it didn't give a failed delivery message when they were blocked from sending to xtra or hotmail and who knows else.

Until the next block due to spam etc.

SORBS will even go an extra step further than that and refuse to delist on request... defaulting to a compulsory minimum 5 week stand-down prior to auto delisting
