How are those on Azure finding the performance? Good enough for business?
We have been playing around with it a lot here, but I am still not convinced that with the closest data centre in Singapore, we get good performance.

Anyone running full website/vm deployments out of Azure? How do you find the performance? Are my fears justified, or is Azure ready for prime time in NZ?

I believe they are bringing it to Sydney soonish, that'll change things!

If connectivity is your concern some of the transit providers in NZ will give you a direct link into your environment.

I did hear on the MS training a couple of months ago I went on that that was a possibility, but for what we are doing, it would be overkill. More thinking along the lines of if we put an ecommerce site, sql etc up there, would it be fast, or would latency kill it?
I totally agree, for me, when the Sydney data centre opens it will be far better. I think AWS is bringing a data centre to Sydney too.

AWS have had Sydney data centres for a long time.

As for Azure, it depends on the load and such, we've had no problems, but do not have any high-usage platforms there (they're in AWS Sydney). I don't see you'd have any major issues unless you have some pretty high throughput requirements or are very latency-intolerant.

Running my 2x shared instance personal website, couple of VM's and storage blob for backup's off Singapore DC. Can't complain. I am sure when the Australian DC opens, website and storage blob performance increase will be noticeable.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Thanks very much, looks like we could probably manage in the cloud even though there is no closer instance. If AWS have an instance on Sydney, it would be good to test there as well just to see what it is like.
