Your website is inconsistent in the way it asks for and deals with ird numbers .

For example, your 'I've forgotten my ird user name' page will only respond if ird numbers are input  with hyphens between the numbers in a certain place, for example you need to enter them as 123-456-789 or 12-345-678

Your 'I've forgotten my password' page will not accept your ird number, giving a message that it is an incorrect ird username / number mixture, if hypens are put into the ird number entry.

IE force me to do things one way then punish me when I do.

My suggestion is the following should be put in place to resolve these issue for your clients:

1 - A set of development standards for entry for all web and other client facing portals. The standards should cover off data entry requirements, password requirements, naming requirements etc etc etc.

  • They would cover - entry of usernames / case sensitivity, space removal etc.
  • They would cover off the input of ird numbers, monetary values, dates etc.
  • They would cover off the requirements to trim entry to remove spaces, the turning of all entries into lower or upper-case to make entries case insensitive, the use of different separators in dates, etc etc
2 - Develop a set of libraries encapsulating a set of rukes and functionalities to ensure the above standards are met. This would also ensure safety and consistency in all development work

3 - Test the above at every dev release to ensure these standards are met.

At present your entry standards are a shambles and are a major impediment to people who are trying to navigate your systems.

Now - should I get stuck into them for the complete bollocks of a navigation system they have, the fact you have to log in repeatedly as it keeps leading you to pages outside the login area them making you re-authenticate to get back in, or their reallu really user unfriendly system for otherly enabled users. (5 known and 514 potential preoblems with accessibility on the front page alone). sheesh -

Should I mention the number of error messages received after submitting forms? or the page time outs getting reposnses?

How do other govt depts stack up?

Oh bugger!!!! And so it goes on - I've now had two times server not resposnding

When it responded I updated my profile details and submitted changes online (successfully) , clicked on a link to submit my returns and got dumped to a page where having found my ir3 it needs to to log in again - when I am already logged in.

Squeeze me sideways with a soggy sock. do they want me to file my returns or not?!!!!!!

Im not a fan of their website, but it sounds like you're doing something wrong to me.
The terminology they use in the process of getting anything done is baffling, but i've done quite a few things on the ird website and none of the weird stuff you're seeing is normal.

Sounds like maybe your session is expiring in-between form submissions?

Would you by any chance have accessibility requirements?
There seems to be something wrong for you to have so many problems.
I've been using it for a while and the only problem I have is the quirky navigation.

Also that their password aren't case sensitive.

Nope coz if I click login it takes me back to my profile page, which lets me alter stuff and see my personal stuff then going to online dforms, doit online etc (the link is right next to send them a message online which also works) I get sent on a spin cycle of not going anywhere.

I have 100/50 fibre, latest firefox,  fully updated and patched windows 7 pro, no firewall / caching between me and anywhere.

The IRD seems to enjoy peeving me off - last time it was a bunch of server messages from their server saying it had had a coniption when I submitted forms.   We have open cases with them for moneys mis-directed to wrong dates - and they know not why, forms submitted and lost and then found again (after we had to resend them), and a plethora of other crud which is driving me spastic (no offence intended to any spastics out there).

Their inconsistent entry fields, confusing layout and other difficulties are just the tip of the iceberg. Unfortunately I seem to be sailing the titanic.

My only accessibility requirements is that their darn site actually works.   I have screen shots of the crud that is happening.  I've now got to the point whre if I am filling forms out online then I screen capture th eprocess as it is so uniformly dreadful and failure prone. I am not dumb, I am veryu good with pcs, but the ird - they really really really hate me - or at least their gremlins do.

What browser are you using, and have you tried a different one?

I would recommend you hire an accountant to deal with the IRD for you if you keep having problems with it.
It may be a poorly done service but it's still usable, if thousands of companies can use it but you can't then there must be a problem with the way you are trying to do something.

I have and apart from having to speak to a bot nonsense, they are generally quite helpful and even have a callback feature instead having to wait on the phone.

Umm but $100 million dollars won't be enough to fix it though.

So to save money they only spent $10 million and you just have to live with it.

their transformation budget is 1.5 billion. unlikely that even $1 will get spent on improving their website
