The Pearson VUE website lets people book their CCNA exam online without actually doing an official course(you can study at home with your own books). When scheduling an exam in Auckland there are a number of places to sit the exam like AMES IT. Do these companies likes AMES actually allow you to just go in to sit the CCNA exam without completing and paying for a course with them? Anyone tried it within the last 2 years?

Yes, you can just pay the exam fee and sit the exam without having to do the course. At least, last time I'm directly aware of it was about mid last year, and wasn't an issue.

If they are listed on the Pearson site and they are set to accept public bookings they can't argue about it.

In return, they get the opportunity to block out days/weeks when it's needed for their own use.   Some test centres work on a 'hidden' basis, or 'contact us direct' basis too (for the ones concerned about prioritizing their students first.

That said, these days these places want to open as many revenue streams as they can.

(Source: I used to work at a Prometric testing centre and they operate exactly the same)
