Hi Guys,

Can someone recommend a good domain registrar. One of my requirements is to have a privacy setting for WHOIS lookups.

I checked GoDaddy but they can't transfer .nz domains strange as you can register new .nz domains.

Its the same with others I have checked, some don't even let you register it such as Bluehost.

Thanks

Last time I checked none of the big overseas registers managed .nz domains . namesilo.com gives free Whois protection, but no .nz domains

I use https://www.freeparking.co.nz/ and am happy with them.

They currently allow Provisional Address Masking as the Domain Name Commission is still consulting/reviewing on the bast way to allow full privacy.

This means you can hide you address but not your contact phone/email.

The latest update that I can find on the review is here.

As mentioned by robcreid, no .nz registrars offer privacy settings. This will be available on November 28th (and only to individuals not in trade), and all .nz registrars must offer this by March next year. In the meantime, PAMO (provisional address masking option) is available but requires you to send an e-mail.

As for registrar, I use metaname. They have competitive pricing (not the cheapest), an API, two factor authentication, support for domain names with macrons, and DNSSEC records (including signing if you use their name severs). If price is your only concert, 1stdomains seem to be the cheapest.

@robcreid

Well that's not to bad I guess. Do you need to pay extra for that service?

No, it is free. You must be an individual, and not in trade to qualify.

Personally I think it's a shame the DNC decided not to implement decent privacy measures after the review process.. What they decided on in the end is a start but still not nearly far enough.
