Currently I have alot of webspace being wasted o not being used, so I have decided to put up a website to work as an intranet as well as a decent home page.

Does anyone know of a decent CMS that could be used, as the web modification really comes in handy.

Failing that, what is the best software for the job? office 2007 doesnt have front page anymore, but they ahve released Expression Web, might give it a download though.

Mainly Graphical creation is great, not to great on the coding side of things.

What are your thoughts?

What CMS does your provider provide?

Joomla would be easy to setup a small website up and running

If you are looking to blog, then Wordpress

Expression Web is not a CMS and is meant to work along with Visual Studio

Expression Web doesnt look at that great from what I have seen of it, alike with Adobe Contribute and Dreamweaver, I dont really get them all.

I have grown to hate joomla, I currently have a client running it for there website, which is a relativly major NZ website. I am currently working them off mambo as well.


Tryed all the ones that come with my service provider, Hate them all.

Although this is a little bit sad, and alot of people probably wont agree with me on it, Frontpage is looking like the best one at the moment :P

Wordpress is great, can be played with enough to look fairly professional and not even be recognised as a WP install :)
Its simple to install and to get going.......

My personal site runs off it, needs a bit of work but I still get comments about being neat and tidy etc.

I agree, Wordpress is awesome as you can completely turn off the blogging features and just build and manage pages if you like.  There are many free Wordpress templates out there as well.

it is indeed but in a way it is a cms and can be set to intranet as long as you set your users accordingly. if you want only a CMS then joomla is great it is rather heavy to my liking though, I am sticking to wordpress.

Why not try SilverStripe? It's a Wellington-based company and also, it recently was picked by US House of Democratic Party for their website CMS.




Internet is my backyard...

Its primary purpose is blogging, but its super easy to use it to create normal "page" based websites.

Thanks Chiefie, reminded me of that and also this being Plone CMS, some people would swear by them, and you can see the result here on the buzz recruitment site.

How about we ask the OP what he actually wants from a site before throwing all this info around ? :)
I know he mentioned a CMS but is that jsut because its a buzz "word" thats going round....

So, AllNightNerding, what do you actually want to do  from the site ? Just a personal blog type thing, a full blown portal, photo album etc etc ?
