Hi all,

Having some difficulty with transferring a domain into MetaName and I cant for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I currently have a .nz domain with them already which I purchased elsewhere, so I've managed to do it once before somehow.

Basically what's happening is I have a domain, name.com, currently with CrazyDomains.
I'm wanting to bring it over to MetaName so my domains are in the same place.

name.com currently has the email name[at]email1.com registered for all the contact details in the WhoIs records.
I no longer use that email so I want it changed when I transfer it, however I do still have access to that email.
I want to use name[at]email2.com going forward.

So according to their site, https://metaname.net/my/transfer , "Please supply contact details as they should be after the transfer:"
So obviously I'll supply the contact details etc using name[at]email2.com, which is what I want it to use after the xfer.
However when I submitted it with this, no validation email arrived at email1 like it said it would (yes, spam checked).

What I did receive however was: "name.com was not transferred to your Metaname account. Often this is because the owner did not authorise the transfer in time, which is usually because the e-mail address for the admin contact was incorrect when the transfer was requested. Please change the e-mail address before requesting the transfer again."

After some back and forward emails with their email support, I've gotten nowhere.

Can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong here? I'm about to try submit it again but with email1 as the contact info and see what happens
But if this doesnt work I'm going to have to look at another registrar as it's due for renewal next month.

Contact metaname for advice as it is their system. You also need the udai.  Unless you have entered the udai somewhere in the process, transfer wont occur

Yeh I emailed MetaName and got a couple of replies, it became pretty obvious they didnt read my emails very well.

It's a .com domain so a UDAI won't apply. They will need the transfer code or whatever it's called but I can't even give that to them since the email isn't arriving to begin the process.

When I get nonsense replies to support emails I reply back repeating my query and advising that they have not addressed it. Be very specific eg “I asked about Zulu but your answering about cheese.”

For any further useless replies I a make a new ticket where the lack of understanding is made the focus of the issue.

Do .com domains have domain locks that you need to disable in order to transfer them?

They do, the domain is currently unlocked and their site won't let you click submit if it's not, so that's one thing I guess.

You will still need to enter the auth code before it will transfer. .com domains can be PITA compared to nz ones to transfer.

Why don't you change the contact info on name.com to the email you want, then try the transfer again?

So I thought dfnt's idea was great and went and changed the email address, no warnings given until I clicked submit and now my domain is locked for 60 days per ICANN rules since I changed the registrant details as well lol.

So that solves this issue then! All that messing around for nothing haha. Will be interested to see whether they end up replying to my emails going forward now.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I've never heard of this before but on reflection it makes sense I guess, say you hijack the site owners account with the registrar but you dont have access to the registered email, stops you changing it and quickly transferring it out.

Still would rather not have it TBH lol

They could send a verification email to approve or decline rather than lock the domain for 60 days

Some registrar's will have the ability to remove the 60 day ICANN lock, so Metaname might be able to remove it still.  It's not the total end of the world, you can still use CrazyDomains to control DNS and everything else, it's just controlling who it sits under.

But yeah ICANN 60 day lock is a PITA, but has been around since late last year.
