Hi everyone, I’m new to the Geekzone community!

I work for a marketing agency in Oxford and I have an information request that I’m hoping someone may be able to help with.

My client is researching into IT Pros. They want to understand the challenges IT Pros are facing with regards to management of digital content and data, with migration to and leveraging cloud-based infrastructures. As well as this they want to identify IT Pro’s job titles and the platforms they use to educate themselves on the best tech options out there, i.e. print publications, blogs, websites, social.

If anyone has any insights on this, I would greatly appreciate you sharing. Many thanks in advance!

Those are very broad questions, with some very detailed answers, particularly around Cloud migration. I'm an AWS cloud specialist so I'll say a little about that.

The first issue with migration to cloud is security. It's a solved problem, but every organisation needs to go through the discovery process. There's also user authentication and authorisation, typically federated with on-premise identity stores, including role based access. You have to train your development and operations teams. You need to monitor, either cloud native or integrating with on-premise monitoring. There's dozens to hundreds other things you need to consider as well. Typically the discovery and requirements effort is weeks to months. Migrating applications is generally done individually if you want to do it properly. Lift and shift doesn't leverage the capabilities of cloud such as auto scaling, resilience, and cost savings, as cloud is actually fairly expensive.

Education is a mix of vendor in-person, online training (Linux Academy, Cloud Guru, etc), and reading vendor documentation.

Wow, that is some disparate questions.

How I educate myself is dependent on what I am trying to find an answer to. But Google, Geekzone and Facebook tech forums are my most-regular ports of call.
