Hi

This might sound like a stupid question however why not have a SSL (Secure Socket Layer) connection on every page of a website?

Thanks

First certificates cost money, so not every site needs or wants to pay to have a SSL implementation (although there are some free certificates but not every browser supports the free ones).

Next because it's an extra load on the webserver, which then must exchange keys with the browser, decrypt the request, encrypt the response and so on...

From my understanding, an SSL cert it generated for a particular domain, or as a wildcard for multiple sub-domains.  Since all the pages are contained within that domain, it's a "blanket" cover.
