Hey guys

wonder if you guys have come across this, first time i did a while ago I was in disbelief that such a thing was possible. With some newer vista laptops I have sold to customers lately, when connecting to a linksys router (seems only linksys or some belkin routers at this stage) via wifi , after selecting the wireless network you want to connect to a screen quickly flashes up before changing to the next and i can see theres an option "dont configure the connection just let me enter the passphrase" or sim but the screen flashes for about 2 sec before you can click on it that option and then the next window is asking for an 8 digit pin, which is normally on the base of the router. Now this is great if you are a home user and are bumbling through getting your new lappy connected, but it will wipe out any existing wifi configuration, this defeats the purpose of having an admin password imo.

I checked the settings in this particular router which is a wrt54g v2 and the WPS (Wifi protected setup) which is the cause of this is turned off and its on manual config. I called linksys and battled through with some tech in manilla but its was just too painful. I can remove the 8 digit pin from the bottom of this one, but I havent been able to solve the connection issue as I dont get a chance to put the passphrase in.

ideally id love to disable WPS on the router, or the pc or all of the above lol
