I am help setting up eCommerce mainly for nz for a friend and total new to the area. So i have a few questions
1. Hosting,  any recommend web hosting company?. Is it important to be hosted in NZ?
2. eCommerce, any recommended package? what technical
3. payment system, Is paypal or google suffiecient? Or should i look into one of nz payment system?
4. SSL cert, do i needed it? Probably for registration

I dont run an online store....but...
1) In NZ hosting isnt cheap - but if you want to use NZ, Iserve is good but limiting on space. Personalyl I use for my site and find theyre good. It helped I got 90% of a years hosting :)
2) Ive used osCommerce and Open Cart - preferred Open Cart as it was very simple to use. OsC is still good though but requires a little more time to configure exactly as you want.

osCommerce is pretty much dead in the 2 tree, and the new one seems (3) to be just floundering.

Zencart was forked off it some time ago and is much better IMO. But if you are not content fitting your pricing and shipping around the solutions expect a long uphill battle getting it doing just what you want, and since you change so many things you are basically on your own. Either works as a starting point quite well tho.
