Does anyone have or know of a plain language
plus graphical depiction chart that specifies xhtml
coding and effects, as in, with examples?

I've searched the web lotsa times and can't find
anything suitable. I need something that I can
keep on hand that (for example) might go like
this:

This sentence would look this way
 with this <xhtmlcode>.
[e.g. <i>]
This sentence would look this way.

I'm finding it hard to locate examples of such
items as <blockquote> <cite> <em> etc., WITH
actual representations of what the effect is.

Actually, best way is to learn to read the W3C DTD - it's like the definitely dictionary/grammar on how to use its syntax correctly.

It can be quite overwhelming the very first time you encounter the DTD, but it will make sense after a bit of information digestion.
