Wikileaks has released http://wikileaks.org/tpp/ a big chunk of the TPP (Trans Pacific "Partnership") documents:
the secret negotiated draft text for the entire TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) Intellectual Property Rights Chapter.

According to the Herald http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11156737 :
"Other areas of dispute are provisions that would require internet service providers to enforce copyright of behalf of foreign corporations, including closing down their customers' accounts; overseas royalty payments on all books, music and movies for 20 years longer than at present; restricting cheaper parallel importing; imposing penalties for breaking "digital locks" such as regional zones on lawful DVDs; allowing plants and animals to be patented; and allowing "diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical methods for the treatment of humans or animals" to be patented."

Yes, be very afraid.

There is really nothing surprising here, these are things I expected the agreement to cover.

The pharma regulations are unadulterated EVIL. They MUST be opposed or our health system will break.

Please everyone share this story through your social media and contact your local MP in relation to this issue, we really need to make sure public opposition is heard here.

NonprayingMantis: When is all this supposed to be happening?

The last I heard our PM was saying they were trying to wrap up agreement ASAP, I believe the projections previously were before years end, but obviously the large disagreements are likely to stall that.

This is an unbelievably transparent corporation-driven agreement, it's not hard to see why the details have been kept secret until now (on a related note, thank God for you WikiLeaks).

I've always been afraid - and there is nothing [particularly new in this document. We now just know all the things that have been discussed are infact in there.

I think most of the concerns are pretty well known, so I don't know how much 'new' there is to be afraid of.

You could take the opposite view of course and see that at least NZ's position has been to actively disagree/dispute these clauses...

Hopefully NZ will keep disagreeing with these clauses.

It disgusts me that we have no say in these important issues, Democracy is a corrupt system and a con.

I am sure Key will be cowtailing to the 1% who no doubt have had influence in putting this plan together as part of the NWO agenda.

We are slowly being led the slaughter of our freedom.

It's very dense, and refers a lot to other treaties. Impossible to get a complete grasp on in a single reading. But it does seem very much to extend corporate protections and reduce individual exceptions, much as expected. I would like to say I can't believe our government would throw away the chance for New Zealand to grow other industries to expand our economy beyond cows and kiwifruit... but both the National and Labour governments have shown they're quite happy to do that.

Fortunately our treaty negotiators seem a little more savvy, but on the other hand they serve at the pleasure of Mr. Key so they could be overruled at any time.

We have 'no say' because we are a representative democracy, whereby we choose people to represent ourselves on our behalf.  There is nothing new about that - if anything we are much more open than in previous years (for example the budget process is much more open, with relatively few 'secrets' on budget day).

Any agreement will still need to be passed through the New Zealand parliament (and the respective legislatures of the other countries).

Yes my comments are more suited for the conspiracy forums, but I don't see democracy as the right representation of the peoples choice, even if the 100% voted 51% in my opinion does not make a decision correct or best for all.

Back to the 1% and here we go,

Just look at the attitude of the Government towards the referendum on Asset Sales, they dont give a hoot for what the people think. 1% Corporate agendas win.

I honestly don't see why people are saying this is anti-democracy, parliament will have to vote on it and there is no way to hide anything then....

Instead of dragging the TPP discussion off into whacko land, how about starting a separate forum discussion and leaving this one to discuss the TPP etc?
