Vodafone, Orcon, CallPlus, Compass and Airnet will receive a share of NZ$31.6 million compensation from Telecom NZ after a negotiated settlement of the ComCom's discrimination case ahead of the demerger. The settlement includes a NZ$250,000 contribution to the Commerce Commission's costs, and a formal Telecom NZ statement saying it doesn’t accept it had breached it's undertakings.

Telecom NZ reaped a significant commercial gain after it failed to provide unbundled bitstream to competing telcos in conjunction with the sub-loop extension service it provided to its retail division. The settlement means Telecom has dodged the CallPlus claim of $65 million and Kordia’s claim of $74 million plus ComCom penalties and claims from the other telcos.

Reynolds says “We are now in the process of rolling out a UBA service to work with access seeker voice.”
