I've only got the one micro usb-usb cable (the asus one).

I did however test the Nexus being charged on:
First: 1.0A rated microusb wall charger - worked the same as the Asus charger, in that it would charge it while the Nexus while it was off but nothing while the Nexus was turned on.
Second: 1.0A rated car cig lighter to usb socket, with the Nexus oem usb to micro usb cable. This worked properly - the Nexus showed it was being charged while it was on.

From this it seems there could be a problem with the oem wall plug?

And now it's decided to all work properly on the oem plug. Weird. I've been experiencing this problem all day and now it disappears. For the record it worked once the Nexus reached 30% charged, and it seems to charging at a decent rate now (not the 5% or so an hour it was before).

cyril7: Hi, have you tried installing a file manager/explorer, I use Astro, you say you cannot use the play store, have you got a gmail account, you wont go far without one (as I understand it)

Cyril

Edit, here is Astro and here is ES as recommended by mark below

Using ES and find it pretty straightforward to use, thanks for the advice.

Has anyone tried to delete something from the Nexus yet? I deleted a movie using ES and it was gone however in 'storage' it was reading the same amount of available memory. I then found that when I connected to my PC the movie was still showing in the movies folder. I deleted it again but the storage space still hasn't changed.

Weird, any ideas??

Completely powering down and restarting seems to do the trick!

My charging issue has returned. Have tried again on car USB adaptor and phone wall charger, but everything will only do a very slow charge and only if the nexus is turned off. Anything else I could try or just return it to dick smith?

I've recently purchased a Nexus 7. It is my first tablet and first Android device and I love it.

I have some specific questions I cant seem to resolve, perhaps you can help me.
I'm running the stock JellyBean version that came with it, albiet with one OTA update 4.1.1 build number JR003D

any way here we go...

1) In the 'People' app I see all my contacts. Some of which I have connections with over a number of accounts...Skype, facebook, LinkedIn, whatsApp etc etc. I see a little green circle next to names that are online, but how do I know which service they are online for? I cant seem to work that out...

2) in the native Gmail App I am trying to send a note to one of my predefined groups. In the browser, I just type the name of the group....and it recognizes...in the App on the Nexus 7 doing this is not recognised....I actually do not know how to send to a gmail group from there...is it possible?

Cheers

I can answer the first question:

The green light denotes a contact who is online on Google Chat/Talk, I believe other apps have the ability to add notifications to contacts but I'm not 100% sure.

Uh, right so possibly the developers can use that green light to denote online with their chat clients as well.

Looks that way... Just don't know which one. one idea would have been to show the dot as well next to the connected or online service

I see a dot on the left pane showing someone is available and then the dot is also next to their Google Talk entry under "IM" on the right hand pane.

Does that not happen for other services under IM? That's a shame the People application is quite powerful, it has amazing Google+ integration and the swipe left/right to navigate feels really nice.
