SE K800i was one of my favourite phones ever! Until a tried a smartphone.... such as the Nokia N82, and now of course Androids :-D

So a K800i isn't an entirely bad choice :-)

BlueShift: Hmmm, Android forum. Three replies, all recommending WP7s. That probably means something.

I'd suggest staying clear of any WP7 phones. The people who use them absolutely love them, but they're a complete and utter dead end as far as the technology goes. Microsoft have already confirmed that WP7 phones will not be getting an update to WP8 when it comes out later this year/early next year. Apps written for WP8 won't be able to run on WP7 phones, so expect the number of available apps to dwindle.

Better to stick with Android, or (dare I say it) have a look at what Apple have to offer.

For consumer and new entrant market I would always recommend an iPhone, but I believe there is a funding constraint in this case, hence being on the Android thread.

Yeah.. dont go with Windows Mobile.. as they dont have a proper upgrade path..

stick to a decent Android and let your wife choose which one she likes.. unless if she wants to go the apple way.. then there is not much choice anyway..

The upgrade path is much the same as for a majority of Android phones in NZ - use it til it gets old, then buy a new one. Only the geeky end of the spectrum actually go out of their way to upgrade their phone OS - if Apple didn't push and nag people, even iPhones would stay on the iOS version they were bought with.

Beware of cheap Android devices, my LH P500 almost put me off Android completely.

I do agree with the upgrade path for mobile devices, unless you are a hacker, you will be stuck with whatever release your device comes out with. My WP7 has actually recieved updates, unlike my Galaxy S2.

Note: above comments are based on official channel (Vodafone and Telecom) supply chain without rooting, hacking or custom ROMs being considered.

I agree with lyonrouge.

If I were to buy my wife a new android phone (I don't have a wife, but will consider offers :D), I would pick a reliable phone that has been reviewed positively and at the moment I will probably get her a Nexus or Galaxy SII, and pay the extra $130 for peace of mind (wives will blame you for it anyway).
