Samsung balance sheet looks around US$136 million?

This is going to hurt possibly terminal.

IANAA but:

http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/005930:KS/balance-sheet

That's not USD; That's millions of South Korean Won.. so equity:

94 000 000 000 000 KRW (94 trillion) ~= 83 269 806 000 USD (83 billion)

"Cash\Near Cash" :

9 000 000 000 000 KRW (9 trillion) ~= 7 972 641 000 USD (8 billion)

EDIT: oops was looking at the 2011 figures... it's even higher on the left in 2012

Yeah, at 30 June Samsung Electronics had US$ 13.7 billion in cash and US$97.7 billion in equity. Their parent Samsung Group (unlisted so can't easily find financial statements) has significantly more equity than that according to Wikipedia.

This fine is not insignificant, but in terms of percentages its around 1.5% of equity. If you started a company and built up $100k equity, then someone fined you $1500, it probably wouldn't be terminal for your company.

Nor is it in this case.

Yeah likewise.. but samsung and htc dont own all the patents relating to 4G/LTE.. quite a few of them are also owned by Apple. And knowing very well, that Samsung and HTC would want to sue them over the 4G/LTE patents, I am guessing Apple would have been very careful as to which ones they use for their new iphone..

One way or the other.. its a wait and watch for now..

The Woz's take on the whole thing:

"I hate it," Wozniak said when asked about the patent fights between Apple and Samsung. "I don't think the decision of California will hold. And I don't agree with it -- very small things I don?t really call that innovative.

"I wish everybody would just agree to exchange all the patents and everybody can build the best forms they want to use everybody?s technologies."

No mention of the insanely difficult way of managing media collections onto the iphone on that list. Thats the biggest downside to them IME.

I find the opposite. I see iTunes as a one stop management hub, easy to use. Most of my content is not purchased. I find it easy to manage, backup, sync, and convenient to clone if upgrading to another device, or to have some content on multi devices.  IMO

I don't see the issue over the plug. Given that you cannot copy content to the phone directly, whether it is a Mini USB or proprietary, doesnt really seem to matter.
