Wholy misunderstanding, Batman. You folks better calm down, right about now.

Once upon a time we used to show flags under people's names to show where they are posting from. The problem is that some people post from work so flags shows (mods still see them) as USA, France instead of New Zealand. In this case the user is in the UK, so there's no reason for this debacle here.

If you want we go back to showing the flags.

I've heard from various places that it might be the 13th of December, otherwise it'll be end of Jan!

That freaks me out :-)

Might have to go buy a GNex and replace it after Xmas.

In terms of importing a Nexus 4 into NZ and using it on Telecom, does anyone have any hard data on whether fast dormancy needs to be taken in to account?

Is FD enabled by default on the N4, can it be turned off etc?

I'm also quite interested in knowing in how imported Nexus 4's perform on the telecom network regarding mobile data. Upgraded my Motorola Defy to Jellybean 4.1.2 (to delay upgrading my phone) via CyanogenMod 10, it performs quite well but fast dormancy (investigated fixes to no avail) just melts the battery when I switch on mobile data. Nexus 4 looks like a very viable option, but reasonable battery loss vs. mobile data would be a must.

I'm going to Whistler in Canada over Christmas for about 5 days (thanks Air New Zealand!) and I'm trying to figure out if it would be possible to get one while I'm over there. Does anybody have any advice? As I see it, my options are:
  • Buy it from Google Play Canada and have it shipped to the hotel where I'm staying
  • Buy it from an electronics store while I'm over
  • Buy it from duty free

Each of these options comes with various issues... And I don't really know enough to see which is the most viable!

Google Play would be ideal, due to the low cost, but the timing issues would be MASSIVE, any delays and I could end up with no phone (and I'm not sure whether the hotel would be happy to post it all the way back to New Zealand...).

Not sure if electronics stores will have the phone when I get over there, and I suspect the price will be much greater.

No idea if duty free would have it!

Does anybody have any advice?

Thanks!

Based on the RRP's I have seen from LG, I would go with google play or not at all.

Timing would be a huge issue, you could arrange for the hotel to forward it to your youshop/shipito address if it arrives after you leave but it is a bit of a risk.

Over Christmas? I think that would be pushing it.
Google would have to have stock in, and Google only offers two day shipping. I wouldn't risk it.

So seems N4 can run on LTE without any modification on some networks (small setting change)

seems like mobicity is putting up preorders for both N4 and N10 now... too expensive!

Good spotting! I don't know if it's too expensive for the 16GB Nexus 4 I've been looking at. If my maths is right that model is around NZ$430 (from Google Play US), plus 30ish for shipping, 100 for customs duty, making it $560. An extra $80 to buy it from a NZ shop where you have a 12 month warranty would almost be worth it for the peace of mind if anything went wrong with the device, not to mention the purchase process to get it from the US seems like a pain in the ...!

That said, there's no mention of when the pre-orders would be available on Mobicity and surely at the rate it's all going it doesn't seem likely to be this year at all?

last time i looked mobicity do not do the importing - they ship from oversea and you have to pay the import tax, so the price would be an extra $180 (100 for custom tax, 80 for the mobicity tax)

Damn, at that price (~$780) for the 16GB N4, i'd rather get a Galaxy S3 or a Galaxy note!
