Knew I should have gone for the 16GB.. damn it.

@Bigmal... assuming before you got the email with tracking numbers etc, you Google Wallet showed your transaction as 'Pending'.

I'm thinking of buying 2 and selling one to help pay for it so would anyone be interested in the 2nd one (am going to get the 16Gb as they're in stock plus I think the bigger one is better in the long run)?

Ideally Wellington/Kapiti based as then I can hand deliver!

Cool.

This means that you would have got them sent quicker than the 'expected' time frame given to you? If so... brilliant!!

My timeframe was 2-3 weeks and I got them in 2 so I'm happy with that :-)

I wonder how NZ retailers are getting bulk stock.  The markup is quite huge considering the play store price.

I've ordered 2 16Gb ones so fingers crossed I don't hit any issues with the postage/YouShop setup.

I've worked out that they'll be roughly $855NZ for the phones plus about $175NZ customs fees (and a bit of shipping/foreign exchange charges on Credit Card) so that's still about $525ish landed each

Great News!
Just received an email telling me my order has shipped!
I really really cannot wait now!
Tracking number and everything!
I wasn't supposed to be expecting an email like this until 6-7 weeks!
Looks like Google has a surplus of inventory now!

Lucky and awesome news. I'll be hoping for an email now as I had 6-7 week delay predicted! 16gb or 8gb model?

Lolbooks: Heres what you do exactly.
1.Register a completely brand new gmail account.
...
10. Should be finished.

This is the easiest way to do it.

I'm now going to purchase a Nexus 4  (16GB) from 2degrees when they're released. But weirdly, when I just now ordered a Nexus 10, it worked right away.

I logged into my Google Wallet account, it brought up some new terms and conditions (which I "read") and I accepted them.

I then went to the Play Store, added a Nexus 10 (32GB) to my cart, clicked on the cart, hit Proceed, just used the YouShop address that I received and my existing WestPac VISA and mashed Buy. I got an email from Google within a minute while the little icon was spinning round. It wouldn't stop so I refreshed the page.

Now a transaction is waiting in my Google Wallet account.

Your order has been sent to Google Inc..
Google Inc. is responsible for charging and shipping your order. Have questions? Contact Google Inc..

Dec 7
You placed an order with Google Inc. on Dec 7. Google Wallet sent a copy of this receipt to <email@email.com>

I just hope it goes through with no problems, otherwise I'll be doing the exact steps you mentioned Lolbooks.

Have just been playing with the Nexus 4 this evening - quite liking it so far. Great screen and feels nice in the hand. Generally liking the Android 4.2.1 build it comes with compared with Android 4.1.

Will be talking with 2degrees handset boss on the NZ Tech Podcast this coming week - about the Nexus 4 and one question we'll try and gain some insights on is difference in pricing between NZ and the Google Play store.

Will also be asking a little about the process of how carriers select handsets and the steps for handsets to get to market in New Zealand.

Wow that's amazing!  But here is me sitting over here with and order fulfilment of 2-3 weeks (on my confirmation email) and still sitting on Pending!!

Got suspicious so I rang Google to see if all was OK with my order and apparently it is all good...so what gives??

Will have to wait even MORE patiently and hope next week changes things

Non Play Store pricing is just not as cheap as the Play Store pricing, when can we realise that already? It's been mentioned in major press outlets numerous times and there's even been talk of Play Store handsets being subsidised by Google

Look at this, AFAIK they're retail and the way they get devices is the same way 2degrees will: http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/buy/LG_NEXUS_4

Once you take VAT off, do the currency conversion and add on GST, you're looking at $720. Add on a bit more due to real life currency conversions and "NZ Tax" it's not hard to see why we've got a $799 asking price.

Do this to any other retailers such as O2 (British carrier) and I'm not sure what else and well it's getting fairly obvious
http://shop.o2.co.uk/mobile_phone/pay_monthly/init/LG/Nexus_4

If you want to get it for $550 or less, feel free to use a VPN and a forward shipper. If you don't want to take too many chances, either spend it on an GS3, L920 or save up for the next generation of flagships
