Hello i'm having trouble with storage space on my Huawei u8180, I keep getting errors that there isn't any space or couldn't install on USB storage or SD card even tho there 1.20gb available space on SD card

SD Card

Total Space - 1.86gb
Available Space - 1.20gb

Internal SD

Available Space 18.86

Internal phone storage
42.11mb

How do I change that my apps save to SD card not the Internal SD card?

You manually move apps to the SD card (Settings >Apps) to free up some space.

Installing Link2SD after you have some space will allow you to automatically install all apps to the SD card.

Yes you will need to obtain root access on your phone. This can void warranty but is a reversible process.

Rooting the U8180 is very easy. Always a good idea to make sure you have backed up important things first.
  • Go to Settings -> Applications -> Development. Enable the option USB debugging, and wait for the debugging drivers to be automatically installed onto your PC.
  • On your PC, download the latest release of super1click.
  • Run super1click and click the Root button. Follow all of the prompts given by the application, but make sure that you choose yes to the prompt on whether to install busybox.
Optional stuff...If you want to go down the path of rooting then I would also highly recommend installing Cyanogenmod 7.2 onto your phone. It is based on Android 2.3.7 as opposed to the stock v2.2 and makes a huge difference on the U8180.

Cyanogenmod also comes with the ability to install apps onto the SD card as well as a whole lot of other features that really make it a much better device.

Once rooted follow the instructions here for installing the new recovery and flashing the ROM. However download the ROM file from here: http://get.cm/?device=u8160 (newer official builds) and the Google Apps: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

Thanks I was able to get open root access, I'm currently working on partitioning my SD card.

But I'm having trouble with gapps-gb file you linked, I cant seem to install it, and the version on google play is incompatible

The Gapps needs to be flashed via the recovery. Only necessary if you install Cyanogenmod.
