For anyone using a flip cover, the Smart Cover app works well with cases that fit well.  It uses the proximity sensor to turn on/off the screen when the flip cover is opened/closed.

I ordered a couple of cases from HK too - KLD Enland, and a KLD Oscar II.  I found that the Oscar II didn't fit as well (cover doesn't sit flat when closed), meaning that the proximity sensor doesn't detect the cover.

wlfkfgkwlaktka: Anyone know how to disable facebook photos showing up in the Gallery app.
I've gone to setting-account&sync and unchecked everything under Facebook but photos still remain in the gallery.
any ideas?

The only way I know is to log out of facebook, but I hope there's another way

Yea, seems like that's the only way.
Don't know why HTC felt so strongly to incorporate Facebook into the Gallery app.

Which manufacturer did Facebook get to build their Facebook phone again?

Bit of an 'egg on face' moment for HTC though, considering the miserable failure that the 'Home' has proved to be.

Edit: My Nillkin flip cover has arrived for my One ($15 ebay from HK). I can take it out in public now that it is suitably protected.

I have been pondering the reduction in the number of hardware buttons on HTC handsets.
The first htc I owned, the Hero, had 7 (including the trackball), the Legend and Desire had 5, the Desire HD and Sensation had 4, the One X has 3, and now the One has 2. One more reduction and things will look a little 'fruity'. Personally I found the One X's 3 was okay once the menu fix was installed in a firmware update. I am hoping the menu is reinstated in a future update, either by long-press on the back button (as was in pre-release) or dual-press of capacitive buttons.

While I wouldn't mind having the menu button back, I haven't had any problems using the phone without it.

None of the apps so far have caused me particular grief.

i think its good that the menu button doesnt exist. I say more and more manufacturers (looking at you Samsung) should go towards the design set by Google. The menu button is usually on the top right corner of most apps.

This inconsistency does get quite annoying. Most of the apps from Google have the menu button on the top right if you notice.

It's called "Smart Cover", by THINKINGIDEA.  It's also a great app for waking your phone without needing to press the power button, just tap your finger on the prox sensor.

Thanks for the clarification. It would seem that the proximity sensor has to be powered all the time. Have you noticed any marked affect on the battery life?

I've only just started using it in the last 24 hours.  I'll trial it for a week, and will get back to you.  Mostly I use it at work when I have my HTCO sitting on my desk (charging on USB), and I want to wake the screen to check for emails.

As a fan of pointless frill I'm enjoying the live weather wall paper today in Auckland with the storm animations. (go into personalise then background options to set)

Reminds me tho, is there any way to see the cell tower message like you could on old phones? I grew fond of seeing which tower I was connected to back in the day...

It would be nice if the message notification stayed there until it is actually opened, and not disappear when I open, for example, another message or the messaging app. I keep missing messages and realising its existence ages after :( If there is an option for this please let me know!!! :)

So, I'm looking at buying this phone tomorrow. Where's the best place to get one currently?

I see Noel Leeming have it for $899.. not sure if there would be any stock though.

I'd love the black version. Any tips as to where I might find it? From what I've seen on Pricespy, it's a lot more expensive than silver, and some places state that it's the "Asia model", whatever that is.

Thanks for any info :)

There should be a lot more stock readily available now if you live in a major city. NL does have a good price on it - it's $100 cheaper than anyone else.

There are no black versions in NZ yet... but expect it in a couple of months I would say.

So far, I am loving the battery life - it can last me on average 2 days per charge without any battery saving app or turning sync off.
