macuser: Picked up the HTC one today with the intentions of converting it to the Google Edition.

Has anyone with a NZ HTC One been successful?  I'm having trouble editing my MID so I'm able to match the Google Edition phones

I think there are ROMS for that, but what I wish google did is allow people to download and convert their HTC One to the official (not a custom made ROM) google play edition

There is a way to 100% convert it to Google Play edition, I'm in the middle of the process now and a little over my head but I think I'm getting there.

If you get it done please share how, I'm new to ROMS and rooting, so im very nervous to do it.  However I would make the leap of faith if it meant getting stock android with almost bang on updates!

For the full conversion process follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781

There are a couple of threads you'll have to follow but that has all the links and info you'll need. It's not a quick process and requires some knowledge of flashing and fastboot etc.

Also your warranty will be void (unless you make proper backups first and follow the return to stock guides).

To be honest you're probably better off waiting for CyanogenMod to push out CM10.2 nightlies for the One. It's much easier to flash a custom ROM like that than go through the conversion process and there is a lot of stuff you just don't get on stock Android that you'll miss.

It is also worth reading the comparison between the Sense and GPE version of the One over at Android Police: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/07/31/jekyll-and-holo-two-weeks-with-the-htc-one-google-play-edition-and-its-sense-infused-counterpart

Yeap used the same instructions from the XDA forum, all I can say is REALLY follow the instructions, creating the zip your MID/CID is confusing since they don't tell you that you should run 'fastboot getvar all' to find your particular info - or maybe they do and I can't read.  Anyway glad I did it, although will miss the remote feature, hopefully they bring it back...

Just side loaded 4.3, already have it on my Gnex but really cool when everyone is excited about getting 4.2.2 on their stock devices.  Will try hunt for a good remote app.

No-one else has reported getting it since the initial few yesterday morning. Maybe we will have to wait til monday morning (Taiwan time) for someone to arrive at work and load a new set of numbers in the server :-/

Maybe :/  sometimes I look at the Galaxy s4 and think "wow! how come they almost have 4.3 I dont even have 4.2.2!" and it makes me really frustraited.  I've never rooted or installed a ROM before but if we keep having to wait far behind the pack then I might need to.

But considering your comment, it all depends.  Lets think on the bright side... at least we get to know what errors and bugs are in the update first.  And we get to hear other's experiences.   And what they thought of the update,  we get to enjoy the update more when it arrives to us because we were waiting so much.

Nope! just bought it from Telecom, change the lock screen to Facebook one and switched a couple launchers etc.  Nothing that required root or unlocking bootloaders.

I check for updates every couple hours or so.  Hoping that it will have an update available

I had to go through a massive mission to return to stock.

- Restored my old 4.1 backup
- Restored stock recovery
- Rebooted and found since I'd updated the firmware to 2.24, the touchscreen no longer worked.
- Downloaded WWE 1.28 RUU and installed
- Flashed custom recovery to restore my Telecom 1.29 backup
- Restored stock recovery
- Factory reset
- Restarted and now downloading the 4.2 OTA.

The swipe down notification screen is huge :D Would be good to see the option of adding a selection of quick button thingys there instead of pushing another button to get to them
