bradstewart: KitKat OTA has just started rolling out for the GPe.

It can be downloaded for sideload here.

For converting your HTC One to a Google Play Edition, instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781 <!-- include generic disclaimer about bricking device -->

I got through this conversion, all except the last bit... flashing the stock recovery. The link on xda above for the stock recovery downloads a broken zip file.

Does anybody have the recovery.img for 3.58.1700.5 Firmware?

Then my mission will be complete!

4.4 GPe is great, I now feel released from Sense!

Thanks

Hi all!
Am preparing my phone to take into AMI tomorrow (i dropped it and cracked the screen) - and was transferring photos onto my computer when I noticed that all of my previously deleted photos (including all of the ones automatically deleted when "best shot" in a sequence is selected) have COME BACK!?
Any ideas why?
Thanks!

Maybe Dropbox has restored copies you had synced to the cloud? Perhaps try turning off the camera upload part.

Thanks, but I just checked that all cloud/upload options were off, and they are...

Is it possible that they are just the thumbnail versions of those images? I've found that deleting an image doesn't remove the thumbnail generated for the gallery app etc. These are stored in Internal Storage/DCIM/.thumbnails.

There should be no reason for the original images to come back after being deleted unless they are being resynced back from the cloud. I use Dropbox for auto backup but I don't think I've ever seen it restore photos back to my phone.

Get everything you need off the phone and then do a factory reset which should take care of any data on it and any apps that could be misbehaving.

Hi all

New user here sorry to register / post as such but could do with help and hoped someone can assist.

I have the HTC One m7 and recently it went for a swim, in the end got a new rear cover and new front screen / digitizer / housing etc.
Working well aside from the replacement screen having light bleeding through bottom right corner and lifting up from glue issues (both manufacturing fault not my own).

So tonight set about replacement with the new screen I had ordered.
Sadly I have made a mess of the screen display cable plug on the phones main board - from looking it appears 3 x tiny wires are gone no longer contacting.

SO - any one by chance have or know of anyone that has a broken HTC One that I could possibly offer $$ to in order to get a donor board ?
Not a happy chappy as now :/

Cheers in advance to all - Phone otherwise awesome, best I have owned no doubt.

I need some help please......

My phone seems to ring then I get a missed call and it rings again.  But the person ringing me just hears a ringing sound and it is the same phone call every time.

Hopefully I make some sense, basically a person calls me and my phone rings, cuts off and rings again - it's really starting to annoy me.

Any ideas???

Thanks so much

Um...sorry to ask a dumb question, but why were you attempting to fix it yourself?

I'm surprised you even managed to get it open without completely destroying the case, care to share how you managed to do it when these guys, for example, couldn't.

Transparent status bar on lockscreen, AppOps is gone and better battery life and and the lagginess has gone. The latter two being likely kernel tweaks.

There is also a 2 stage location icon on the power widget, that can't be turned off (from the widget itself)

Will be interesting to see if battery life improves, mine was not bad on 4.4 once I worked through those rogue app updates that change critical settings, I'm looking at you FB with your update interval and you video that by default holds wifi on rather than ph default.

Not bad to me is 16 daytime hours with 2.5~3hrs screen on time. This is use with no regard to battery conservation, two active push email accts, location tracking on etc etc

I was having terrible battery drain just before the 4.4.2 update, Google Now was the culprit and was phone wasn't going to sleep at all..

I'm almost always connected to wifi so I can usually get 4-4.5 hours screen time.

A customer has rolled up with his HTC One Boot Looping after installing an update that he can't recall the name of. I have tried running the battery flat. The problem is that he has some text messages he doesn't want to lose, and as a result performing a factory reset isn't ideal.

Anyone got any ideas what I can do to try and recover it without losing his data? Customer isn't too worried about his warranty. Is it possible to repair the bootloader and is it likely this would resolve the issue?

HTC logo comes up, and then screen goes black after a second or two.

I can get into download and boot menu without any issues.

If this person has installed an 'update' then they must have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery. The best thing to do would be to power on with vol down and boot into the recovery and use adb to pull the build.prop file from /system and find what they have flashed.

If it's an aosp based ROM on top of a sense one then there is a small chance of fixing it by flashing a custom sense ROM via sideload that matches the Android version of the original. It's only a slim chance as the two differ so much that the upgrade/optimisation process after flashing would likely to irreparable damage to /data.
