Giggs: HTC are offering unlocked HTC One's direct for US$575 plus presumably postage.  Unfortunately they are out of stock for 2-4 weeks and you will probably face GST bringing it in.  Still it maybe an option for some.

Be careful as their 4G frequencies (if you plan to use it) isn't compatible with NZ from my understanding.

May not matter anyhow.

Both Telecom and Vodafone are using/testing on 4G 1800 Mhz spectrum, but both have said they will go after the 700 spectrum later in the year when it goes up for auction.
And if I understand it right (if not please let me know) the way we would use the 700 spectrum is not the same as the US carriers use it, so their ones won't work now, or later if we do go down the 700 road.

With me living in Christchurch and on Telecom, pointless to even really worry about what 4G the phone is, if what I have said above is true.

That's very good point when Vodafone or Telecom move to using LTE at 700MHz and does not seem to be listed as one of the LTE frequencies in the HTC One.

Having a read I don't think there are any  LTE 700MHz handsets out there.

So Vodafone / Telecom?? is using band 3 1800MHz for LTE and Vodafone is also running LTE 700MHz band at Lake Brunner as part of the rural trial.

The specs show No LTE 700MHz support in the HTC One

What happens when 700MHz band LTE goes live? New handsets? and we are in 2 year contracts yep looks if a new phone is required but I presume  LTE 1800MHz will still be available to use so no worries there.

I have preodered my HTC One as I don't see this as a big issue right now.

Finally got a shipping estimate from Fedex - should have my One Friday.

Just in time too, since it means it will be one of the ones that gets the good microphone!

HTC One Case Ultra Thin Air  has shipped should get here the same time as the phone.  I ordered the Crystal clear case so I didn't want to cover up the back of the phone.

I was just about to ask which cases have people ordered. I have become quite clumsy lately and have got a few cracks on the screen of my GNex. I would like to protect my new investment.

This case does look quite nice!! I was wondering which other cases have people ordered (and why?). I am looking for something that looks and feels quite nice and protects the phone.

Renders for the Spigen one do indeed look good, remains to be seen of course whether it actually does!

For cases I would check out Gavin's Gadgets blog(@gavinfabiani on Twitter), dude is a serious case fiend often getting more than 30+ for any handset he owns. He has the One and can probably recommend you the best case.

Im looking at this one (oops, cant post links yet - mobicity . co . nz /htc-one-leather-case-stand.html) on Mobicity, as I quite like wallet cases. Anyone seen anything similar around the web? Will probably pick up a couple of cases for different uses however. I quite like the look of the double dip case but not sure of the colours. I also like the one that you posted Lipex.

Im pretty good with taking care of my phones, had my iP4 since launch and smashed it last November when I had it in my pocket and fell on it skateboarding. Since then Ive treated it like trash, no case, opening beers with it, dropping weights on it, constantly dropping it to concrete etc. Surprisingly it is still in working order, though some of the glass and the home button have began to fall out, and the home button has basically stopped working (though that was an issue before I smashed it)

Hoping the HTC One has the same durability, which is why Im staying away from the S4

I got mine from an Ebayer, the last the had, so no help to anyone else I'm afraid.

RE: Durability - my purchased-at-release S1 which was passed down to my fiance and saw hard use for nearly three years (especially with her, looking after phones is not her strong point) and still works and is virtually perfect physically. Please lets stop confusing build materials with durability people.

That's the thing with this phone it looks so good in its birthday suite why cover it up?   That's why I'm trying a clear case.  I wont be using any screen protector as they feel horrible.   Thought about leather wallets but they cover the phone up and makes one extra point for the S4.

Something funny what sold me over the S4 was the having the FM radio and I sorted like facebook home so looking forward to the blink feed.

Thanks Murray for Gavins blog link off to do some reading.

Apologies if this question is answered elsewhere in the thread, but does anyone know if Telecom is selling the LTE 1800 variant or just the HSPA variant?

FWIW, a rep just told me that Telecom will be selling the HSPA only variant. But as always, take that with a grain of salt.
