Got $100 OFF the XT HTC ONE at Noel Leemings by saying Harvey Normans was going to do the same. $899.

Have to wait until the 7th though. If not more... But I was able to find out that NL only has TWO of these phones on pre-order in South Island ( The MAINLAND)... So shouldn't be to much delay??

I think it's pretty stupid that telecom has disabled the LTE on the phone. Now, i can't use it anyway - we wont see LTE here for at least 100 years. But I'd like the option.

I intend to use the phone on 2degrees. I told them this in NL (also told the guy in the telecom shop when i went there lol), so if there is some stupid problem stopping me (like it only working on 2100 mhz)... Back it'll go.

cathy88: My question is how did you persuaded them into offering the 20% off.

I must be a poor negotiator

Damn!

I said I had an existing pre-order for 2 with someone else and I'd cancel it if they gave me 20% (as they did for people during the easter sale). The guy said, "oh yeah, probably..", had a 10 second conversation with his manager and said that's fine.

I paid them and went home to cancel my handtec order.

A shame they aren't willing to do it for you :/

You're aware that both Telecom and VF are launching LTE this year right?

It's not stupid that they have disabled. I can see them testing the network and having muppets being able to see it, not connect to it and then ring them and complain.

They'll enable it when the network goes live. What's the problem?

Seen it on the gee whizz fancy DOS like inventory interface they have, myself. Mine makes the 3rd. Today anyway.

I was really quite amazed. I sort of knew the s4 would get most of the attention - all the hype and bull, built up on previous best sellers from samsung.

No worries; people are ignorant. They will sell heaps of them when they appear in shops and see it themselves.

(really tired of the nanny naughty word editor here).

Which NL is this, is it in CHCH?

I should go try the same, or quote you as a friend and request for same price.

I am.

Stupid as it may be, I was referring to where *I* live when talking about services *I* can avail myself of.

It's not stupid that they have disabled.

Yes it is.

Unlikely.
Vodafone didn't think it was a problem.

They'll enable it when the network goes live. What's the problem?

Modifying system software introduces the possibility of bugs and problems. Modifying it twice triples the chances (one mod to turn LTE off, another to turn it on, and interactions between the two mods - I assume for now it requires a rom flash). Given this is for no material gain (I reject your hypothesis), the decision is merit-less.

It was a decision, I suggest, made by some marketing department pricks. They'll charge you to have LTE, wait and see.

You just criticised them for an assumption that you have made about the way you think they have done things and not how they actually are in the real world where the need for tinfoil hats is lessened by fact.

The way this works is that the software checks the modem for LTE status and since it is disabled it doesn't show the LTE options. If you were to flash a different radio then the LTE options would magically appear. This is something HTC have included, not Telecom.

Telecom are selling a phone for you to use with their service which is either subsidised or sold at little to no profit. They disable a feature because it is not yet supported by their network. In what way are you disadvantaged by not having the option to enable a non existent feature?

Telecom are well within their rights and yes it does make sense that they would disable a feature that does not yet work.

I can hear the calls to CS right now with people complaining about the 4G option on their new One not working.

If you must have the useless LTE option right away then check with VF and see if theirs will support it or buy an international one.

It was in Dunedin - a Bond & Bond that was recently changed NL (centre of town, george St).

Try quoting me as a friend if you like - Julian Moller, Dunedin.

Perhaps try mentioning that people pre-ordered during the Easter sale and you want the same deal?

I would say that this is your best bet at getting that price again. Big box retailers are pretty good at honoring old sale prices, sometimes you just have to remind them what they were Tongue Out

JB were having a sale on a TV I was looking at purchasing, I went in there but they didnt have any left. I waited a couple weeks for them to get them back in stock, and when they did I went down and told them a few weeks ago they had the same TV at $X and if I could have the same deal. They obliged.

Also got a good discount off a MacBook Pro from them just by asking, the guy even threw in Office for free.

Could someone with an HTC One please post how much of the ~25GB available storage is available for apps and how much is, essentially, the SD card storage for media? Or is it all available for the use of anything? I'm asking because I seem to remember the One X had it's storage partitioned into Internal App/Data storage and sd card?

I'm trying to compare this to the S4's available storage, and with the HTC One's very similar name to many other HTC models, trying to find an answer for this specific question isn't as easy as it should be. I'm not really concerned with app storage, mainly media for when I'm infrequently travelling.

There's no message tone and no notification light yet when you unlock the phone the number of unread message shows on the message icon.

Plus GST?

Plus the customs fee charged by DHL when they contact you to pay the GST?

Plus GST alone this would bring the device to NZ$960. Telecom will sell it for NZ$999. Add the customs fee and the lack of local warranty makes it expensive compared to local price.

I ended up pay gst, duty etc. of  $167 totalling my phone purchase at $1000. Oh well i least i secured myself one.
