NZtechfreak:
kiwitrc: Confirming Wolfson DAC in the S4.

Note this is only for the Octa version, not the one we're getting here in NZ.

Yeah read that, but no mention that the other version is getting something different.

It is. It will have the standard Qualcomm SoC-bundled DAC. Supercurio has already done a Voodoo Report analysis of the 600 version confirming this.

By all reports the Qualcomm one is very good. Maybe not quite up to the Wolfson but given the audio limitations with Android from what I've read the difference is virtually indiscernible.

Telecom celebrates launch of Samsung Galaxy S4 with up to $5 million Samsung Galaxy data giveaway

Telecom is celebrating the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 on its Smartphone Network by giving away up to $5 million worth of Samsung Galaxy data to New Zealanders.

That equates to the uploading of around 128 million photos to Facebook or watching your favourite YouTube clip on your mobile approximately 51 million times.

Telecom’s Head of Consumer, Chris Thompson, says New Zealand will be one of the first countries in the world to get the Samsung Galaxy S4, which launches globally on Saturday 27 April, and that its arrival calls for an appropriate ‘data-centric’ celebration.

“Smartphones are a huge part of our lives now and data - as the new ‘digital currency’- is what our customers tell us they value. So what better way to celebrate the launch of this extraordinary new smartphone than with a massive Samsung Galaxy data giveaway.”

The up to $5 million Samsung Galaxy Data Giveaway is available to those postpaid customers who purchase the Samsung Galaxy S4 on the Telecom Smartphone Network before 30 June, 2013.  Postpaid Customers who purchase the Galaxy S4 – provided they do so online - will receive an extra 1GB of data per month for 12 months, and there will also be a special data offer in Telecom stores for those postpaid customers who switch to Telecom from another network when they purchase the Galaxy S4.

Everyone who purchases the Galaxy S4 on the Telecom Smartphone Network will also go into the draw to win one of three big prizes of up to 500GB free data every month for the duration of their 24-month plan.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a number of compelling new features, including a larger and higher resolution 5-inch screen, dual cameras – which allow use of the front and rear cameras simultaneously - and the S Translator feature, which allows users to chat with friends in multiple languages by automatically translating the conversation to the user’s language.

Mr Thompson says global interest in the Samsung Galaxy S4 means stock at launch may be limited.  He is encouraging customers who want to get their hands on the new smartphone, and take advantage of the data offer, to do so soon, either online or in-store.

On launch customers can visit one of 34 Telecom stores around the country to purchase a Galaxy S4. Alternatively, they can purchase directly online.

- The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available on all of Telecom’s smartphone postpaid plans.
- As a special launch offer, from tomorrow (Saturday 27 April, 2013) Telecom customers can get the Samsung Galaxy S4 for $0 on $119 24-month plan.  However, they must sign up before 12 May, 2013.

I'm guessing the extra data will become the norm at some stage in the not to distant future.

$119 24 month is better than the $140 but will purchase outright if I choose to get one.

Bring on the chaos of tomorrows launch :)

Can someone confirm this is correct? The Telecom website still lists the phone at $349 on the $119 24-month plan.

Here's the answer to this question:

"The $0 offer on the $119 plan is available from tomorrow (launch day for the Galaxy S4) as it is a special launch offer, so the website will update at midnight tonight.

Those customers who have already pre-ordered the S4 through Telecom will have the option of either getting a refund (if they have bought it for $349 on the $119 plan) or dropping down to the $119 plan (if they have signed up for the $0 offer on the $139 plan)."

JB HiFi traditionally had been the one of the early places you can get Galaxy S accessories, e.g. the accessories pack for S3 last year.

Yeah I know, I pointed a few folks there for the S3 MHL adapter when they first got it. I was surprised that time, but then I got an AllShareCast Dongle there too, so I wasn't particularly surprised to see them with S4 accessories on sale today.

Murray would appreciate your thoughts )(thus far) on the Exynos/snapdragon debate, I am not interested in 4G at moment and now both seem they will be available here

When I visited the Vodafone shop on Wednesday, I was told that they had their S4 accessories in their stock room and were ready for Saturday... probably should have taken them up of the chance to pre-order a nice case for my new toy!
