So theoretically you could buy this phone with a $29 Smart Open plan for $1149 then immediately switch to another plan, say the $19 one.. unless I'm missing something? I assume you'd have to pay for the first month of the $29 plan. though.

Wonder if you'd still get the extra data.

NZtechfreak: EDIT: S View covers on sale already at JB HiFi..

JB HiFi traditionally had been the one of the early places you can get Galaxy S accessories, e.g. the accessories pack for S3 last year.

Yeah I know, I pointed a few folks there for the S3 MHL adapter when they first got it. I was surprised that time, but then I got an AllShareCast Dongle there too, so I wasn't particularly surprised to see them with S4 accessories on sale today.

Murray would appreciate your thoughts )(thus far) on the Exynos/snapdragon debate, I am not interested in 4G at moment and now both seem they will be available here

i believe the word on the street is the exynos eats the snapdragon for breakfast in prelim benchmarks and should also save power and has a better sound processing unit

but i may be wrong

question is is the exynos dual carrier?

Depends on your carrier. Faster mobile internet is always nice but tbh I didn't a feel a big difference when using an S3 with DC.

Personally I'd take the LTE S4 for the future proofing. Besides you're not going to notice a real world difference between the two S4's anyway. Benchmarks are great for epeen but honestly have little real world value.

On Vodafone it is, DC gives much better 3G speeds in my experience, but then if one doesn't yet care about 4G/LTE then the possible lack of DC may be forgiveable also.

Regarding Exynos Vs 600 I think the real answer is nobody is quite sure how the differences will play out in actual use. There may be better battery life to be had, the may be better audio quality via the headphone jack, there may be some performance increase in regular use, but I don't think any of this is certain at this point. It benches better, but then they're close enough that I don't think you can say with certainty that'll carry over into a meaningful difference in actual use.

On present samples the Exynos camera seems to be getting marginally better results than the 600 version, but again not enough of a difference to really be a meaningful distinction between them.

The 600 will have a larger development base, and possibly have better CM/AOSP ROM support with better documentation available for that SoC, but it will depend on the user as to whether that is significant or not.

Regarding audio - the presence of a better DAC does not, in itself, constitute any kind of guarantee about offering better sound quality. The implementation of the DAC has a big bearing too - RF shielding and proximity to other internals, power supply governance, the software layer (and no doubt a myriad other things I'm not aware of). For example the LG 2x had far worse SQ than other Wolfson devices from around the same time using the exact same DAC, because there was terribly intrusive CPU noise ruining its output.

It is in the absence of LTE on the base model Exynos that will be released first.
I might try and wait until the Korean version (SHV-E300S) comes out with the Exynos 1.8 and LTE/4G.

That being said, I'm thoroughly confused about which "LTE/4G" devices are compatible with which country.
Will the LTE/4G on the S4 work with all NZ based LTE/4G networks? Will LTE/4G be uniform across all NZ networks (when they build them)?

thanks Brad and Murray for the clarification.

I should have said I'm on Telecom so given it maybe 6 months before 4g is introduced a lot of things can change before then.

I suppose I'm getting caught up in the shallow, 'bigger is better and i want it' thingy

I too am interested in the SHV-E300S, clocked faster and has LTE, have to wonder why the other Exynos doesn't have LTE or if this has some other hardware tweaks?

It could be completely wrong but I read that the Korean LTE frequencies aren't supported by the Qualcomm chipset and that the Exynos LTE device wouldn't work with LTE outside Korea. But like everything pre device release it pays to be a bit sceptical.
