NZtechfreak:
networkn: I believe the 32GB for the S3 is available though quite rare, I am pretty sure one of the regulars from the S3 thread has one, he did wait a couple of months for it though. I am not aware of the situation on the other models as I don't own those phones nor need or have desire for anything larger than 16GB because I have a 64GB SD Card. It is a little strange however that it seems Samsung is a little reticent in their delivery of higher capacity models I guess. Perhaps they don't see the need based on a relatively low demand?

Depending on your use though expansion with cards may not be an answer any longer. Now that apps and their data are installed to the internal SD the ~9.something GB free on the S4 internal SD may not be enough. This is particularly true for gamers, with some high quality game installs in the 1.8-2GB+ range...

Personally I think it is high time that 32GB became the base internal storage for non-budget Android devices, if you look at most of the other OEMs this year that is what they have moved to (HTC, Sony, ASUS). Naturally Google Nexus devices will continue to come in crippled internal storage capacities to drive traffic and data to their cloud services, but the other OEMs have no good excuse in my book.

In relation to 32GB S3s, yeah, a number of months after the initial release these did become available but they are hard to find. The 64GB model of course never came at all.

they became available a couple of months of later and were off the market in a  couple of months too. I totally agree with Murray that 9.5 GB available memory isnt going to please a lot of people.

But was this due to them not wanting to make them or the much more likely alternative that people where not overly interested in the larger sizes?

My 16GB S3 is currently sitting at 8GB free, Probably hasn't varied much in the last 4 months or so.

As I said, it depends on your use (and realise of course that the 16GB S3 had 3GB more available space from the get-go). Lighter app users won't find an issue here particularly, many of us who post in forums like Geekzone do not fall into this class.

...oh, and I should point out that Google Music for offline use goes to the internal storage too.

Also, in countries with Movie downloads the problem becomes larger still. Still, at least now we can console ourselves for not having access to that service :)

Inbuilt apps, reserved space for system files etc.

Definitely should be 32GB minimum for total internal memory. I'm not a huge gamer, but take a lot of 1080p video clips. 5 minute clips in 1080p and you're well into the renainder of the internal memory very quickly.

Agree with the 32GB as a minimum thing. I also have a Lumia 920 which has 32GB memory (29 available). I have already used 13 GB of it just by the way of a few games, 1080p videos and pictures and some music.

It does but just saying as most are, all smartphones ( or Samsung smartphones like the S4 ) should be a minimum of 32 gb internal memory. Expandable memory or not.

I agree that 32gb is really a minimum to fully utilise a smart phone.

When you drive to the distribution centre would you mind going via Dick Smith and begging for mine too. :)

I wonder how long it will be before the phones appear on the Warehouse daily deal site again, it looked like they have quite a few left just before 10am Sunday.

Yes I was surprised, but then sold at full RRP isn't really TWH normal behaviour. I couldn't wait so I bit the bullet, I presume all the phones on offer were the same physical device just with a bundled sim card?
