actually you may have root, have a read here for philz touch recovery as it says it may not install custom recovery and still have Stock recovery.

Disrespective: First, using Odin, flash CF Auto Root for Root access.

Then flash Philz or CM via Odin for a custom recovery.

Then flash a ROM via Odin for fun times.

Oh how i would have loved to flash a rom via odin! Problem is all custom roms i could find last night were zip for recovery flashing only.

And i had no recovery.

Now i have stock recovery. But no good for anything.

Just curious ... If i factory reset now will i go back to my original telstra au rom or the current voda rom?

Factory reset will just restore the current ROM to a blank slate.

Without having your device in front of me all I can offer is to try and reflash root (can't hurt) and then a custom recovery of your choice.

If you try and flash a recovery, what happens? Does Odin fail or do you get into the recovery once and then never again? Philz gives me an option when I change something for if I want to restore the stock recovery on reboot. Obviously that's not what I want. It can also tell me if root is missing on a rom and root it for me on reboot.

When i used odin to flash cf auto root, and then flashed cwm recovery, it shows success both times.

I then press up power home until it says recovery booting, but it just restarts instead of going into recovery.

Is there only one type of cf auto root for 9505 and does it work for 4.2.2 or only 4.3?

There are apps that can let you reboot to recovery, like ROM Manager. Maybe get one of those.

I had that issue when using 3 button reboot, had to make sure not to hold all buttons pressed as it went straight to reboot, I just waited until blue-ish writing came up in top left corner and let go.

As Tim says once you get it all going get it setup to use reboot from on/off button its way easier.

booting to recovery from app (rom manager) worked after the flashings!

installed echoe slim v9

can i ask which modem to flash if using telecom? can use telecom's earlier 4.3 modem? (i tried downloading the latest telecom 4.3 rom from samfirmware but it is corrupt! twice!)

PS will flashing the telecom modem fix random "no service" on the phone?

I've always updated modem with new firmware but a lot keep the Telecom modem and swear by it so if no problems keep to it.

If you do change remember you have to flash via Odin and usually twice, they suggest unticking reboot and once finished flashing modem switch off and reboot into download and flash again, that works.

So you can try what best suits you, I'm still on MKE and it works fine but I'm in Auckland, when in Dunedin at christmass it worked fine there as well.

Get te modems from here make sure you get I9505 and XXUE ones, don't flash the NA modems as they are for kitkat and I think may cause issues if you aren't on NA rom

Well my wife switched from Gmail to Hosted Exchange, and the default Android Email app is the bane of her existence, not having features she is used to and likes, like conversation style views etc? Anyone using something else that works well?

In that case you better specify what features she wants.

was reading the following the other day and tried it but didn't change much for me but be interested in what others get.

"I just discovered something about wifi

If you go to settings > wifi > menu button > advanced and then uncheck Wi-Fi optimization you will get the FULL wifi speed. (or atleast almost)

With that setting checked (which is default)
I only got up to 12mbit at speedtest :/

with that setting unchecked
I got a steady 40mbit at speedtest "

apparently you will need to switch off wifi then back on again. The differance to me was not much.

That option doesn't exist on 4.2.2.
